Make sure your bar has a 31.8mm clamp and the headset fits a 1-1/8in steerer so the parts bolt up cleanly. For climbing-focused rides, choose a wider-range cassette such as an 11–34t to make steep pitches easier. Electronic 12-speed groupsets like Shimano Dura-Ace R9200 (Di2) or SRAM Red eTap AXS deliver crisp, precise shifts that help in both high-cadence sprints and long climbs.

Hydraulic disc brakes provide strong modulation and consistent performance in wet and dry conditions, so they’re a common choice for road use. Consider rotor sizes between 140 and 160mm to balance stopping power and weight, and match calipers and levers from the same family for predictable feel.

Going tubeless reduces pinch flats and lets you run slightly lower pressures for better grip, especially on rough pavement or light gravel. Tubeless-ready rims with a 25mm internal width work well with typical road tire widths of 25–32mm, which often run around 80–120psi depending on rider weight and rim specs.

Selecting carbon, aluminum, or titanium changes weight and compliance: carbon cranksets often fall in the 200–300g range for a stiff, lightweight option while 7075‑T6 aluminum stems balance durability with weights near 100–150g. Manufacturers also use CNC machining and hydroforming in construction, and parts are fatigue-tested for durability over more than 10,000km.
