Road Saddles

Think about how much you move on the bike: flat saddles suit riders who shift positions, while curved saddles give stable support if you sit in one place. For aggressive aero positions a short-nose or split-nose can reduce soft-tissue pressure, and endurance saddles with thicker padding or cutouts work well for long, recreational rides.

Measure your sit bone spacing and match it to saddle widths, which commonly range from about 130–160mm to ensure proper support. Many brands offer multiple widths to account for pelvic anatomy and riding style, so try a size close to your measurement for the best baseline fit.

Pressure-relief cutouts help reduce saddle pressure across the perineal area and can be found on endurance and performance models; they also tend to be designed to resist water and debris. Split-nose designs are especially useful for sustained aero positions seen in triathlon, giving relief during long hours in a forward posture.

For lighter builds, carbon fiber or carbon-reinforced shells paired with titanium rails like TiNox trim weight while keeping controlled flex for comfort. Keep in mind that typical road saddles span 200–350g—some race-focused models sit near 336g—so material choices influence both feel and mass.

A shorter nose shortens overall length (many standard road saddles are around 270–272mm) and can reduce forward pressure and allow freer hip rotation in aggressive positions. If you spend long stretches in an aero tuck, a short-nose or split design often improves comfort without compromising pedaling efficiency.
