Hopping out of the car and setting up in a group site? A spacious, 4-person tent will give you the room you’ll need to spread out. Hiking in 30 miles? We’d recommend a light 2-peron. Sleeping Bags

A high quality down sleeping bag is much lighter than a comparably warm synthetic bag. Down also lasts much longer than synthetic insulation, 20 years to synthetic’s 5. You’ll pay for it though—down bags often cost twice the price of synthetic. Synthetic thrives when it’s wet, however, and can outperform down in soggy environs.

Super light, packable, warm, and comfortable? A good sleeping pad brings only benefits to a camping trip. They add comfort, which translates to valuable hours of sleep, and they bring an insulated layer between you and the ground, increasing warmth.
