From its beginnings in the French Alps in 1947 to today, Salomon's passion for the mountains fueled revolutionary, technology-driven concepts in bindings, boots, skis and apparel for both alpine and Nordic skiing. It also brought innovative solutions to footwear, apparel, and equipment for snowboarding, mountaineering, hiking, trail running, and many other sports. But that's not surprising, given that Francois and Georges Salomon, founders of the company that still bears their name, were trained engineers.
The Salomon father-son duo opened their shop in Annency making saw blades and ski edges; within five years Georges had introduced a new, better cable binding and, as the safety binding continued to evolve, the first binding with a step-in heel piece in the late '60s. By 1972 Salomon was the world's leading binding maker. Salomon's first boot, the rear-entry SX90 was a milestone for the brand, and it's successor, the rear-entry SX91, was met with great acclaim. The SNS Nordic binding and Salomon's first skis followed suit, and it wasn't long before the company was a global leader in ski equipment for both alpine and Nordic disciplines. Hiking shoes and hiking boots were introduced soon after, and the company extended its reach into all four seasons.
Beginning in 1997, Salomon began expanding into new sports, including snowboarding and trail running, with equipment, footwear, and apparel. Salomon Snowboards brings together the company's considerable technological expertise with its drive to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. It's only fitting that its motto is "Slay Boredom."
Salomon trail running products are anchored by its high-end, race-oriented S-Lab line of footwear. Like all top-of-the-line products offered by Salmon, these shoes were developed in Salomon's S-Labs, the R & D division where the company's cutting-edge innovations in ski, apparel, and footwear are born. Salmon's full line of agile running shoes for both mountain and city trails is rounded out by technical clothing and training accessories, including water flasks and hydration packs, to make every run more comfortable and every runner more capable. Salomon's Citytrail app even maps out favorite locals' runs all over the world, enabling you to explore new cities in new ways.
But Salomon has not been resting on its laurels in skiing, either. Its Nordic line, headed by the cutting-edge Carbon Skate Lab boot and the S-Lab racing skate ski, continues to produce lightweight, high-performance gear for all levels of skiers, from World Cup racers to recreational enthusiasts. And in Salmon's alpine division, you'll find skis, boots, bindings, and poles for all terrain and purposes: off-piste and on, backcountry and frontside, and from highest reaches of the mountain to the park and pipe near the base. You can also equip yourself with Salomon outerwear, apparel, helmets, goggles … in fact, Salomon offers everything you need on the mountain, head to toe. It even makes bags for you to get your gear to the mountains, and a Powfinder app that helps you find the best snow at more than 250 freeride resorts around the world. But wherever you go, whatever you do in whatever season, you'll find Salomon there, "Converting new ideas into action and expanding the limits of possibility."
