The versatile Patagonia Women's Capilene Midweight Bottom is a great way to stay warm whether you're skiing powder or ice skating at an outdoor rink. This durable and fast-wicking baselayer performs in a wide variety of temps and activities thanks to the smooth Polartec Power Grid fabric's brushed-grid backing that traps heat to maximize warmth without adding bulk and pulls sweat away from your skin to keep you dry. It's also breathable to keep you from overheating when you're touring or shredding in spring, and a Polygiene treatment fights odor to keep the car fresh on the way home from the mountain.

I got these as a gift and love to wear them as a base layer during the winter. I walk around the city a lot and I find them very comfortable. They are soft and not too tight. They are easy to wear with other clothes like jeans or sportswear without feeling heavy or restricting your movement. I find them pretty warm for temperatures around 10-30 degrees.

I bought these to wear as a baselayer while skiing. I find that they are pretty warm and comfortable. They are loser fitting which is nice if you don't like skin tight baselayers. Would recommend.

    great!

I these because they are not skin tight like most leggings. They are super comfy and warm for my purposes (sleeping in the desert in winter).

    Light weight comfort!

I bought this for my mother who complains of being cold often. I have used capilene and love that it won't cook you indoors, but really helps regulate your temperature and stay warmer.

Feels really good on the skin and won't chafe or pull hairs.

didn't feel that warm to me

5'5" and 127/bought the small, kinda baggy in spots but no big deal . I just didn't think they kept me as warm as I would have liked, but disclaimer: I am always cold.

These are nice and warm but a little bit on the itchy side for a synthetic baselayer. I am hoping they will get better with washing. Sizing is okay, a little tight in the waistband and loose everywhere else.

    Smooth and warm.

I got this baselayer after figuring out that I react poorly to merino wool. These bottoms fit just right, are a little looser than leggings and are smooth to the touch, so I don't get itchy when I wear them. They are so smooth, that they fit on top of another pair of leggings for really brutal ski days or night skiing. Just what I was looking for.

I got these to use as a base layer and for skiing this season. They are super comfy and warm. The fit is really nice and the waist goes up a little higher which is helpful because they don't slip down with lots of activity. The colors are also super fun! They seem to be high quality and I am hoping they will last for many years to come.

    A pleasant surprise.

Pulling these out of the box, you wouldn't expect them to be as warm as they are. They feel very thin, but Polartec fibers do a heck of job giving you that extra boost of insulation.

My one and only gripe (which I admit is petty) is that they're kind of baggy. I sometimes like to wear my long-underwear as leggings at the bar for apres, but these guys make me look kind of frumpy. It is my fault for not looking at the fit (which is slim) and assuming that it would be form-fitting. But, it's definitely not worth returning. They're way too warm for that petty nonsense.

I am a fan of these bottoms. They are warm and comfortable and they fit me well. I can easily wear a pair of pants over them if the pants aren't tight.

I tried the smart wool nts mid 250 and found them a bit itchy. These are awesome. They are soooo warm and the design is perfect. The wide waist band is great and the seams are super attractive and comfy. As usual, well done Patagonia!

Great base layer. The wide waistband provides absolute comfort. Love the fit, and they don’t stretch out throughout the day!

It's warm base layer, nice quality, a bit loose fit to the body to save all the fuss to put on them

These pants are warm and still give you freedom! They have a thicker waistband than my other base layers which makes them more comfortable for long days. The fabric is comfortable and has been keeping me really comfortable on the slopes. I bought the gray pair and wouldn't wear them to the grocery store but they are thick enough to wear at a ski lodge without giving too much of a show.

    A Very Versatile Layer.

Patagonia's Capilene just keeps getting better and better. Come winter, I live in my long johns - running, skiing, yoga, daily wear: you name it. I have an old-old pair of the midweight Capilene that finally had the radish, so I figured why deviate from what I know - I picked up a pair of these and I'm way impressed with the changes.

First of all, the fabric is totally different and features a super subtle micro-grid-esque pattern on the interior that wicks away moisture before I even notice it's a problem. Perhaps the nicest part about the fabric is that it's anything but sheer, even with the form-fitting design.

As for warmth, this baselayer is way cozy. I wore them skiing on a 6-degree day and while I was roasty-toasty-cozy when I was moving, I definitely felt a bit nippy on the chairlift.

Also, let me tell you about the waist band: it's unreal. I thought Patagonia had really hit the nail on the head when they started utilizing the wide waist band on their baselayers in 2014, but now they've really impressed me with this new edition. There's this reinforced elastic on the inside of the waistband that keeps the baselayer up high on your natural waist, which is awfully convenient if you've got a booty or a long torso.

Bottom Line: These are an awesome midweight baselayer for someone who's looking for Jane-of-all-trades kind of performance. Plus, the Harvest Moon blue is decidedly my new favorite color (also shout out to Neil Young's best song of all time).

    Heck. Yes.

These are it, all you ever needed in a long underwear bottom (slash legging).

These were recommended to me by a friend who worked at Patagonia and shoosh I am glad she did!

They are super light in weight, but not in warmth--they were an easy add to my kit for a backpacking trip last summer and kept me super warm through all the tundra had to offer.

They kept their shape nicely through 45 days with constant wear and no washes (Save that one bout in a river...).

I'm 5'6" about 140# and the medium was perfect

Can these be worn alone? i.e. not as a base layer

    Hey there Janellle!

This can be worn by itself but it is a bit baggier and less flattering! These won't fit just like leggings but will be more lose in the knees and thigh area! My girlfriend is 6'3" around this base layer fit her? She is typically in size 14 yoga pants, she can get in size 12 but feels they are to tight.
