Women's Winter Boots & Shoes

Think about where you’ll spend most time: snow boots work well for city walking, slush, and light snow while winter hiking boots handle trails and snowshoeing. Pac or extreme-cold models like the Baffin Icefield—with its 17-inch shaft—are better for standing outdoors in Arctic conditions.

Try your usual size and pay attention to half-size adjustments listed for each style, since some models run large or narrow. Also consider a wide toe box for all-day comfort and remember that shaft height (5–17 inches) affects overall fit around the ankle and calf.

For city walking or slushy days, 200g KEEN.WARM or similar lighter insulations will keep you comfortable. If you’ll be standing in very cold conditions, choose multi-layer systems or extreme-cold pac boots—brands like Baffin use layered insulation designed for much colder, stationary exposure.

Aggressive lugs and durable rubber compounds provide the best traction on ice and uneven slush, and traction ratings typically favor lugged soles. Models such as the Sorel Kinetic Conquest are noted for superior hiking traction and warmth, making them a solid option for icy walking and mixed winter terrain.

Most winter boots combine leather uppers, waterproof rubber outsoles, and seam-sealed construction to keep water out in wet conditions. Some designs are tested to handle 5.5-inch puddle depths without leaking and weigh around 2 lb 12 oz per pair (size 9), so check those measured specs if durability and waterproofing matter to you.
