Traction is suffering

This was my third pair of Moabs, the first two being the Model 2; all of the pairs I have owned have been size 15, medium width, and mid ankle. I struggle to find boots that will fit my size 16 foot with a giant toebox and minimal arch, and as a result the Moabs have historically been a blessing for me. I remember the first hike I brought the Moab 2s on, I was absolutely stunned by how well they performed for such a reasonable price. My first pair (bought 2021) lasted me through hundreds of miles (with the help of Nikwax) of hiking through boggy Adirondack terrain, arid Utah sand, and as work boots on salty roads in Colorado. When the heel lift loop broke I bought my second pair. The lower toe cap separated from the sole rather quickly compared to the first pair which came as a surprise, but it wasn't a huge deal. When I saw my opportunity to replace these with the new Moab 3s on sale, I jumped on it. Because I have loved these boots so much, I am going to be nice in saying this. The new design of the heel lift loop is nice, and makes me more confident that it will be durable. I also feel like shoes fit my feet a bit better than the second model. However, after 3 days on the trail, with only 34 miles to show for it, I can say that the traction on the sole has made me lose a lot of confidence in this boot. Obstacles that I would have never thought twice about putting my weight on in the Moab 2s have become full on risk assessments with these boots. If I see terrain that is slippery I recoil in fear because I have already taken more than one tumble, and don't want my day on the trail to be over because these boots slip. I have found this to take a lot of the rhythm and enjoyment out of my hike, because I am constantly asking myself if the soles of these boots can handle it. I don't know if I got a lemon, or if the wet summer is just really throwing me off, but I have come too close to injury in these boots to feel confident in them again.

The goto everyday boot and hiker

Comfortable and almost broken-in right out of the box, this hiker is supportive, fits my wide foot very well, is light and comfortable for all day wear. A good cold weather boot with heavier socks, just loosen the laces. Water-resistant is a better description than waterproof. Standing is water for more than several minutes and the interior starts to get more than a little damp. Walking or hiking in the rain through puddle and wet spots and the boot remains dry.

Happy bunions and wide feet at last

I am a female who has bunions, high volume, very wide feet. Women’s wide isn’t comfortable for me anymore and I decided to try these in men’s wide. These actually fit the width and volume of my feet. I am so happy to have found these. I have lots of room, no binding, and no break in period. The colour is great. The grip of course is as awesome as my women’s wide pairs. I hope there will be more men’s wide shoes from Merrell in my future.

Perfect for wide feet

Extremely fast shipping for where I'm located. The hikers fit perfectly! I have plantar faciatis, and usually have to wear custom insoles. Not with these. They were amazing right out of the box! My go to for hikers now.

Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Wide Width

I walk through woods and farm fields. The waterproof feature is a neccessity, sometimes it's snowing or heavy downpours. I Love the Extra Wide Width. Second pair of Moab 3, I'm a fan for life.

Best out there, but laces are poor quality

I am on my third pair of Moabs. They are the perfect day hiking shoes. I wore them right out of the box and hiked 10 miles on them. They are THE brand if you have wide feet. The waterproofing works well for stream crossings with boulder hopping. I wouldn’t do the narrows in them, but they are more water resistant than I expected to be. Would b 5 stars, but laces were subpar and tore easily within the first two days of wearing. Had to replace them on the trek.

Merrill Shoes are the best

I love Merrill shoes. I work outside on a farm and these hikers are always comfortable and protect my feet. The fit is always perfect to size.

Poor quality control

Well I have to say I’m pretty disappointed in Merrill Moab’s. This pair is warranty replacement for another pair of Moab’s that started peeling off at the toe in less than a month of easy wear. This pair didn’t make 2 weeks before the tounge holder loop came out of the top and looked like it never got stitched in. That’s not a deal breaker but quality control is obviously not very good. It really surprises me to get 2 pair in a row that have issues even if small. I certainly wouldn’t take them into the backcountry as I have no confidence that another loop won’t pull out when I need to really tighten my laces for downhill treks. Since I bought them for hiking that makes them unusable for that purpose. Most I’ll do is wear them around town. They are super comfortable to wear just not durable. Forcing me to wear my hunting boots for training hikes wearing them out instead or these. Kinda sucks my budget just won’t allow another different brand to try.
