Updated SMP Design, Same Great Fit
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
The Selle SMP Dynamic saddle has been my choice for years, it just works for me. But I thought it would be worthwhile giving the new EVO design a try to see if it's an improvement. I've been riding it on short rides the last few months and do like it quite a bit. The changes are primarily in aesthetics and materials, the shape is the tried and true design used on the saddles like the Blaster or Dynamic. Widths and cutout sizes differ somewhat between all these models but it's subtle - if you are particular you may have to try an few to see what works. The saddle certainly looks more modern than the leather and graphics of the Dynamic which isn't a big deal to me but will be for some. The EVA foam is billed as being more vibration damping but I haven't gone on long enough rides to notice a big difference. I put the saddle on and forgot about it, the transition from the Dynamic was that smooth. These minimally padded options work well for me on gravel but if you are riding chunky stuff constantly the extra padding of the EVO Plus could be a good choice. I went with the steel rail option but the carbon rails are certainly attractive - Selle SMP saddles need all the help they can get with weight. In short, I wouldn't run out and replace your current Selle SMP saddle with the EVO but if you haven't tried one yet, buy this or the EVO Plus!
