29-inch wheels favor speed and obstacle rollover for XC, trail, and long-distance riding, while 27.5-inch wheels deliver more agility for enduro and downhill. Match the diameter to your bike’s geometry—modern slack frames often suit 29ers and more agile setups typically take 27.5s.

Wider rims in the 30–35mm internal range are better for aggressive trail and downhill because they support wider tires and add strength. The i30 wheelset, for example, uses an asymmetric depth (24mm at nipples versus 22mm elsewhere) and pairs well with 2.3–2.6-inch tires for added sidewall support.

Tubeless-ready rims let you run lower pressures—typically around 20–25 PSI—which reduces pinch flats and improves traction on rough terrain. Many tubeless-ready designs also eliminate inner tubes, helping cuts and small punctures be less problematic.
