Lower-rise bars in the 0 to 25mm range move your weight forward for better traction on climbs, while higher rises like 38–50mm shift you rearward for more confident descents. A middle-ground around 20mm often balances climbing efficiency with descending comfort, so match the rise to your bike geometry and riding style.

Check the clamp diameter stamped or measured at your stem—it's either 31.8mm or 35mm and must match the bar. If your stem is 35mm you’ll need a 35mm bar like the Race Face Next R 35; a 31.8mm stem accepts the more common 31.8mm bars.

Carbon bars save weight and damp vibration compared with aluminum; a model like Enve's M6 uses unidirectional carbon layup and a 780mm width to boost compliance. For aggressive enduro riding carbon can improve comfort, but aluminum still offers strong durability and better value for heavy impacts.

Most riders start from the 800mm stock width and trim equal amounts from each end until the bar feels right for their reach and handling. Cross-country riders typically prefer a noticeably narrower profile, so cut gradually and test the fit before removing more material.

Sweep angles change how your wrists sit—upsweep is commonly around 5 degrees and backsweep usually between 7 and 10 degrees, with 8 degrees the most common. More backsweep can reduce wrist extension on long rides, while upsweep adjusts hand rotation for a more natural feel.
