TPU tubes are much lighter, pack smaller, and run well at lower pressures—AERON TPU models are aimed at racers who want lower rolling resistance and better flat protection. Butyl remains the durable, more affordable standard for everyday riding and heavier-duty use.

Tubeless lets you run significantly lower pressures for improved traction and fewer pinch flats, but it requires tubeless-ready rims, sealant, and tubeless valves. If your rims aren’t tubeless-compatible, a tubed setup is simpler to maintain on mixed road and dirt routes.

Narrower tires around 32mm with minimal tread reduce rolling resistance for mixed road and light gravel—examples include the Maxxis Re-Fuse at 32mm for speed-focused riders. For tougher off-road or loose surfaces choose wider, knobby options around 44mm like the WTB Raddler for extra grip and comfort.

Match valve length to your rim depth; TPU tubes commonly come with Presta valve lengths of 42mm and 65mm to fit shallow and deep rims respectively. Measure your rim and allow a little extra valve protrusion so a pump head seats easily.

Inserts such as Cushcore sit inside the tire to protect rims from impacts and allow you to run lower pressures with fewer pinch flats. They work best paired with tubeless systems and are worth considering if you ride rocky or technical terrain often.
