Silca and lube specialists Nix Frix Shun (NFS) joined forces to give the nicest pumps in the world the only thing they were missing: Silca's NFS Leather Gasket Conditioner. Most cyclists treat their pumps as through-away items, living by the maxim that you should never pay more for a pump than you would for a mid-tier training tire. That also means they'll be buying a new pump every few years as parts breakdown and things fall apart. Silca pumps, on the other hand, are investments meant to literally last for generations. Even the smallest elements of their design are functional luxuries.
The leather gaskets, for example, are supplied by a fashionable leather manufacturer in Milan, Italy. (Incidentally, this is the same source that Silca has been using since the 1940s.) The leather is produced from scraps not used in the production of high-end briefcases and luxury car trim. With a pedigree like that, it's worth taking care of. When applying Pump Blood, cover the gasket liberally and gently knead it, but be careful with dry cups as they can be brittle. We recommend erring on the side of excess, as a thorough job means more effective pumping and a longer gasket life. Silca also recommends applying a few drops in the pump's cylinder every six months or so.

Thought I would try this on the leather gasket instead of the usual 30 weight. The leather seemed to really have a thirst for this stuff. It's nice and odorless and hopefully will be a bit cleaner in the long run. Also, the pump definitely felt like it was sealing tighter after it was reassembled.
