Why We Like The Crater Lake Hoodie

The high temperatures have never stopped us from getting out there, so why would the threat of UV rays? In the Crater Lake Hoodie, we have full protection from the sun so we can hike, climb, and explore without the worry of sunburn at the end of the day. The three-piece hood covers both the front and back of our neck, and thumbhole cuffs keep our sleeves securely in place so the lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric can repel solar rays while we play in the heat of summer.

Doesn't recover from stretching. Otherwise nice shirt when used in brighter colors.

After using multiple crater lake hoodies over a couple years, I find they degrade and stretch out way too fast and too much. I've never owned a shirt that grows in size like this one. Probably doesn't need to have so much stretch to it to still be comfortable. After one summer, they gain at least 1-2 shirt sizes to the point of looking extremely baggy and ill-fitting. This is also likely affecting the UPF UV light blocking as well since it stretches out so thin. Would be a far superior hot weather sun shirt if it was less elastic. Also worth looking for the shirt colors as white as possible and avoid green shades. Green absorbs a lot of heat from the sun. Pure white is ideal, but the color choices change each year so go lightest color you can get. It reflects the sun better without adding extra heat to the fabric like darker colors, and greens.

Great piece of gear

Very light, very cool (not good for warmth), and excellent fit for taller people (sleeve length).

Fits great but retains odor

The fit and function is phenomenal and the material is soft and lightweight. Seems pretty sturdy. As much as I love all my other MHW gear, I would not recommend the Crater Lake Hoody because the fabric retains every iota of sweat and within minutes it reeks. Over a dozen yrs in the industry and I've never experienced an article of clothing that retains BO like this shirt.

I bought this for the up coming hiking season and so happy I did. First trip; took it up Mt. Whitney. Came off the mountain with no sun burn and didn't have to wear my puff jacket neither because the hoodie did provide some warmth!

Quality & fit is great

Got a medium size (5'7" and 170lbs), it was a great fit. Used it for my runs during summer with 90F+ weather with >8 UV Index, it did protect me from getting tanned and sunburned.

Great Sun Shirt

Love this sun shirt. I'm an environmental educator and already this has come in handy leading hikes, paddle trips, and just for long days in the sun! It's nice to know I'm protected without having to put sunscreen on every 60min. Hood fit is nice and thumb holes are in a good spot

Best Sun Hoody

I wore this shirt every day during my 10-day trek to Makalu Base Camp, and it's hands down my favorite. It kept me cool even in scorching temperatures on sunny days. It's incredibly lightweight and breathable. I love the hood feature; it fits very well, even with a hat on. It also dries quickly under the sun after sweating in it all day during our long treks.

Great shirt, really versatile

Wow, what a versatile shirt! So light I hardly felt it on a recent overnight in Shenandoah. Easy to throw the hood up when the forest opened and I needed sun protection, comfortable under my lightweight rain shell and from evening at camp at 60 degrees to climbing 2000' vertical on a humid 70 degree day. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this shirt from around the house and neighborhood walks, to climbs and hikes both near and far. This piece will definitely be in my suitcase/backpack for any leisure trip.
