    Keep out the cold.

Dog-sled across Sweden, maneuver the snow blower in Minnesota, or brave the streets of downtown Chicago in mid-January in the Fjallraven Women's Nuuk Insulated Parka. You'll be toasty warm while the rest of the world suffers in a deep freeze. When the snow shifts from a pretty dusting to a burly blizzard, the Nuuk's waterproof and windproof shell keep the snow and wind at bay until you find shelter from the storm.

The shell of the Nuuk is made from Hydratic, a windproof, waterproof, and breathable fabric. The fabric consists of microscopic pores, thousands of times smaller than a single water droplet, but larger than steam vapor. External water is unable to penetrate the fabric strictly due to size, while steam you generate when working hard may escape, thus creating the comfortable duality of breathable and waterproof. Fjallraven's own Supreme Microloft provides insulation. Similar to down in form and function, Supreme Microloft consists an intricate network of varying widths of synthetic fibers, creating a barrier made of air pockets. Cold air can't cross the air-bubble border, and warm air has difficulty getting across as well. In short, warm air stays inside the jacket and cold air stays out.

A thigh-length hem offers a bit more protection for brutal winter winds, and the fleece-lined collar and hood keep you snug as a bug in a rug. When the winds quiet down, remove the faux fur trim from your hood and enjoying emerging from your Nuuk cocoon. Ample pockets offer plenty of storage for phones, hand warmers, snacks, or just provide a nice place to keep your hands warm and cozy.

    • Weatherproof parka to keep cozy while braving the bitter winter
    • Waterproof face fabric prevents moisture from seeping for warmth
    • Supreme Microloft creates air pockets to prevent body heat escape
    • Fleece lined hood and collar provide additional warmth and coverage
    • Thigh-length hem offers extended coverage for added protection
    • A plethora of pockets store daily necessities or warm cold hands

I bought this jacket because I hate being cold! I can't tell you enough how amazing it is...I get so many compliments AND I stay warm! I'm a true believer that you pay for what you get, and this jacket is worth it!

    Warmest Parka!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I absolutely love this parka. It's my go-to for all winter, outdoor hang-out activities. It's kept me warm, toasty and dry for several night-time concerts in the snow, daily dog walkings and other cold-weather adventures. The hood is super soft and warm, but still allows you to see out. The longer length allows for more coverage and extra warmth as well. All the inside pocket choices make it easy to bring along whatever I need. For someone who hates the cold, this jacket has made me look forward to being outside even when the weather is snowy and freezing.

    Warmest Winter Coat EVER

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 6'4"
    • Weight: 180lbs

At first I thought that $499 was way too expensive to spend on a jacket. But once I bought it, I found out that my oh my was I wrong. It is the warmest thing I have ever put on. Surpasses the other brands I have tried while on the hunt for that perfect winter jacket. Absolutely love.

SO warm (and still really cute)

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I originally ordered a small (normally wear a medium in jackets) after reading the reviews but it was still quite a bit large. I ended up exchanging for an XS. If you plan on wearing big, thick layers under it I'd size down one but for just a sweatshirt or some smaller layers I'd size down two. The arms and length were still plenty long enough for me. I LOVE this jacket! It's so warm and long enough to cover your hips and butt. The hood seems really warm and it's big enough to almost cover your entire face if you zip the jacket up all the way. It is a little heavy for a jacket but that's expected because it's meant to keep you very warm. I would highly recommend this to anyone that lives in frigid, cold, wet and windy areas that spends time outdoors. If I could afford to I'd get several colors! This is a great investment piece for anyone in a colder environment. Well worth the money and much cheaper than real down parkas.

Side note: I had AMAZING customer service on this! I ordered this for a trip back home to MN after Christmas. I chatted with customer service and she rushed it to me (guaranteed in two days). Unfortunately, I had to leave earlier than expected and didn't get it in time. She was so fast and helpful in making the exchange as well. The turnaround time for returning, receiving a the new one and getting a refund was easily within a week. I would really recommend chatting with customer service reps for any questions you may have. They are extremely helpful and friendly!

AWWW thanks so much for posting this review of the jacket and for posting details of your experience working with me - I really appreciate your kind words and i'm so glad you are staying nice and warm in your new coat!

Please continue to reach out to me for absolutely anything you need in the future - it was a pleasure working with you as well Angie!!

    Very well-made parka

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: S
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 135lbs

This parka is very well made, I ordered a S in red, it was a beautiful bright red that would have made me very visible on dreary winter days. The parka has many pockets, on the outside are 2 patch pockets + 2 fleece-lined handwarmer pockets, inside are numerous pockets in various sizes including a pocket with ear bud exits.

I loved the parka but unfortunately it was too heavy for me, i.e. it weighed too much (3.5lbs). I have neck and shoulder issues and am extremely sensitive to weight, so I felt the parka's weight immediately . With gloves, wallet, phone & keys in the pockets the jacket would easily weigh 7-10lbs. Having said that, I do not know of anyone who has this problem!

The parka runs LARGE, I often wear M but the S was more than generous, it zipped easily over a baselayer and a puffy vest. I would definitely recommend this parka, sadly it was just not for me!

    SO WARM

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: xs
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

Love this jacket - it DEFINITELY runs large. I normally go with a medium in jackets. and tried on a small in this knowing Fjallraven is big and still ended up in an XS. I love the super deep pockets on this jacket as well as the super deep interior mesh pockets. It's really warm, but with that warmth also comes weight. I wouldn't necessarily describe this as bulky as when I think bulky, i think michelin man puffy jacket.... but it's definitely heavy and thick.

I do want to point out that this jacket is NOT VEGAN as it is made with real leather pieces on it. That said though, it is environmentally friendly made and does have faux fur on the hood.

Hi Brittni, I bought mine in 2015 -the pull tabs are nylon with rubber tips and the fox logo is an embroidery patch ...absolutely NOT leather. None on the coat. Too bad they seem to have changed the model. It WAS a great vegan option.

    WAY TOOOO LARGE

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large

I first ordered medium size and then exchanged for a small one. I'm 5'5 and 140 pounds and the small fits too large. The sleeves are long and large, which makes me look like wearing a down comforter. This jacket is really boxy, so I would not recommend it to people of my size. But I really love the style and design. The jacket is in high quality. It just doesn't suit me.

    Vegan coat

I get it...faux fur because it is a vegan coat. The fit of this coat was the most boxy of the other coats I tried (Sorel and Norrona). It says it is waterproof but I don't think this coat would hold a candle to the Gore-Tex featured in the Norrona coat. Nice, true red color but it doesn't have down insulation, again because it is vegan, and it didn't feel as warm to me as the down insulation in other coats.

I also am not warm enough in the Nuuk. The sleeves have less insulation than the body, although Fjallraven does not provide the weights. Insulation is not Primaloft which in my other synthetic insulated jacket is much warmer. Hard to compare really without knowing respective weights. How the jacket looks on depends on the wearer's shape. The fit is perfect for me. Just wish there was more insulation.

      Perfect winter coat

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 145lbs

I can wear this coat in the winter for a long dog walk (1+ hours) in 20-degree weather and be perfectly comfortable with a single shirt on underneath. The waist can be cinched in (on the inside) and there are plenty of pockets for phone, dog bags, treats, etc. It is heavy! I probably wouldn't wear it on a hike.

      Warm stylish parka

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: XXS
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 112lbs

Runs large. Usually, I wear S or XS, but this time ordered XXS and it fits well. Parka is really high quality and worth its price: made from amazing materials, everything is in its place, a lot of useful pockets, warm and windproof. Highly recommend.

      Great coat!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

True to size for me and very very warm for Chicago winters! Hand warmer pockets are perfect and has many more bells whistles and pockets than the more expensive Canada Goose coats. I was trying to choose after giving this a shot before shelling ou $800 for competitor and so glad I did. Far superior!!!

      SO HAPPY!!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large

First of all, I cant believe how helpful and knowledgeable and accommodating the Back Country staff is ..I am a customer for life. I searched high and low, and among many brands, for a truly WARM, non down, winter coat that could stand up to the elements, and finally found the NUUK. I am so very happy. It runs VERY large; Im 5'8' and 130 lbs and ended up with an extra small, (im normally a medium in Northface) which fits perfectly, even in the arms (mine are very long)

This is a very well constructed coat, it is very warm, and its also fluorocarbon free ..a bonus to give my money to a company with a commitment to the environment!

Very happy. Thanks to Fjullraven for making a quality animal free product, and to Back Country all of your help! I have recommended to several friends who have the same requirements.

HIGH QUALITY FABRIC, NOT VERY WARM

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

The synthetic insulation isn?t sufficiently warm to go without a mid-layer in extreme cold. I?m wearing a featherweight 650 fill down jacket underneath when the temps drop into the 20?s. I feel the cold in my arms more than my body as there?s less insulation in the sleeves. I tried to learn how the insulation in this parka compares with Primoloft but the manufacturer doesn?t have these specs.

The parka is cozy and snug in the neck and the ?fur? trim around the neck looks attractive. It?s not what others are wearing and the outer fabric has a high quality feel. The hood is functional but has to be folded back to see. This parka appeals to me but it?s far from urban chic.

The sleeves are on the long side but the velcro wrist straps can be wrapped to raise them up and they keep the cold out. The bottom pockets are low and don't have a side opening. There are higher pockets close to chest level but it?s awkward to walk with arms out 90 degrees. They do come in handy when driving.

Oddly a snap is missing in the middle so the flap doesn?t lie flat in that spot.

I usually but not always wear a medium and bought this parka in medium. I?d prefer an extra inch in the back when I cross my arms. It?s really hard to say with precision any parka is ?true to size? or not, since sizing varies from brand to brand. This parka is not sleek or fitted but that?s not a matter of size. Were I to vary from my usual size, I?d size up for greater ease of movement and room for layering. This is not the right coat for the woman who wants to show her contours.

The parka is overpriced for its warmth. It?s marketed in the U.S. as suitable in extreme cold. In Europe, it marketed for changing weather conditions. The down-filled version of it (Kyla) sells for $700 and has only 500 fill power. Plus, the manufacturer offers only a one-year warranty.

I recommend the Nuuk parka if you?re looking for medium warmth and like the look and fit enough to pay. $250 - $300 would be a reasonable price.

      Runs Big!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large

The construction, style, and warmth of this jacket is spot-on, but being 5'1" and 120 pounds, the XS was still WAY too big. I looked like I was wearing a men's jacket; the shoulders, arm length, and boxiness of the bottom part definitely was not flattering on my small frame. It did look great from the side as it is slightly cinched in and does have a nice silhouette, but I felt overwhelmed in it otherwise. A friend of mine tried it on and she is 5'5 and 140 pounds and it fit her much better (the XS). Again, it is a really well made jacket and I did wear it in sub zero temps in North Dakota and was very warm, but if you are on the petite side, I just wouldn't recommend it.

what is the thermal experience index for this parka ?

TEI is actually a proprietary system developed by Canada Goose, so it doesn't directly apply to Fjallraven. If I had to guess, based on Canada Goose's system, I'd say a four or five. This is a serious jacket for being outdoors in very cold, nasty conditions. It's serious overkill for the average cold-weather consumer to wear every day.

Is this parka machine washable? Thank...

Is this parka machine washable? Thank you.

      Hello,

Yes this is machine washable. I highly suggest using a non-soap deteregent specially formulated to clean fabrics like this that feature a waterproof /breathable membrane. Check out the link below.

Don't use a top loading washer since the twisting action may damage the jacket. You should also consider air drying the jacket or using a very low setting - there will be more specific instructions about drying on the actual care label for this jacket.
