Women's Blue Triathlon Bottoms

Think about which leg you want optimized: tri shorts are great for sprint and super-sprint races when you stay in one pair through swim-bike-run, while swimskins are built for open-water speed and are usually removed before cycling. Run shorts or tights work better if you want a dedicated bottom for the final run or need extra warmth in cooler conditions.

Most women's tri shorts have inseams ranging from 4 to 8 inches; shorter 4-inch cuts offer more freedom for the swim and early run, while 7–8 inch lengths provide more coverage and support on the bike. Try a middle option like a 6- or 7-inch 2XU Core Tri Short if you want a balanced feel across all three disciplines.

Long-distance races benefit from enhanced chamois padding and chafe-resistant construction to handle extended cycling, whereas sprint-focused shorts use lighter, lower-profile chamois that won’t bulk in the swim. Santini Women’s Ironman Tri Shorts illustrate how extra padding and support can improve comfort on long rides.

Lightweight nylon and spandex blends shed water quickly and resist chafing, which speeds transitions and keeps you comfortable after the swim. Flat-lock seams and anti-microbial treatments are additional fabric and construction details that reduce irritation and odor.

Consider UPF 50+ when you’ll be exposed to sun throughout a race, and check compression levels (sometimes listed in mmHg) if you want graduated support for muscle stability and recovery. Models such as Pearl Izumi’s Select Pursuit or De Soto’s 400-Mile shorts highlight features like compression and durable fabrics for different race priorities.
