Start by measuring your shell width and ID, noting common road widths like 68mm and MTB crossovers at 73mm. Also confirm spindle diameter (24mm vs 30mm DUB) and bottom bracket drop, since press-fit standards often require specific spacers and presses for a proper fit.

A 30mm DUB spindle, as seen on SRAM DUB systems, offers increased stiffness and often lighter overall crank feel compared with older 24mm options. Choose the larger spindle when you want stiffer power transfer and broader compatibility across modern BB standards.

Press-fit BB86/PF86 can be prone to creaks over time if shell tolerances and installation aren’t exact, though models with plastic sleeves and aluminum-stabilized cups reduce movement. For heavy-duty use, options like Wheels Manufacturing’s press-fit units trade lighter weight for rugged bearings and extended life.

T47 combines threaded engagement with a larger-diameter shell fit, giving the durable, all-weather feel of a thread while fitting wider modern shells, and BSA (English) threading is known for dependable, creak-resistant service. Premium threaded units also use sealed angular contact bearings and Gutter Seal-style protection for better water resistance.
