Consider handle diameter and shape because a larger grip can change how you hold presses and swings, and rubber-coated or cast-iron heads with steel handles affect feel and floor protection. Also think about your hand size and typical exercises so the handle shape supports your movement proficiency.

Suspension trainers like the TRX are very beginner-friendly since strap length adjusts to your height and ability, letting you scale from assisted to full-range bodyweight moves. They’re also portable and pair well with bands for added resistance or stability in HIIT and functional sessions.

Isokinetic machines offer programmable concentric or eccentric focus with constant contraction speeds, which helps with high-velocity training and targeted rehab. Pneumatic and hydraulic systems use compressed air or oil pistons to deliver variable, lower-impact resistance, and pneumatic setups are often noted for reducing injury risk versus traditional weights.
