Heart Rate Monitors

Chest straps with ECG sensors deliver the most precise readings for running, cycling, trail runs, and interval sessions. Models like the Polar H10 use chest-based ECG to match lab-grade accuracy for athletes who need high-fidelity data.

Fit matters: a chest strap should sit snug against the sternum and be adjustable to sizes like the Garmin HRM 600’s XS-S or M-XL, while armbands should lock onto the bicep or forearm for comfort. Also look for skin-friendly, machine-washable straps and a secure geometry that prevents movement during sprints or climbs.

Yes — swim-compatible monitors rated to 5 ATM (50 meters) handle pool laps and often record distance and pace even when not transmitting in real time. Some units support swim-specific recording modes so you can capture sets without needing a live connection to a watch.

Dual Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity lets a monitor broadcast to multiple devices at once, so you can stream to a bike head unit and a watch simultaneously. Transmit modes provide real-time data while recording modes save to internal memory for later sync, which is handy for sessions where you don’t want a live link.

If you’re away for days, aim for models with long internal memory and rechargeable batteries—some offer 400–600 hours of data storage so you won’t lose workouts. The Polar Verity Sense highlights 600-hour memory for extended use, while units like the Polar H10 are noted for around 400 hours of battery-backed recording.
