Headphones

Helmet audio speakers are the go-to for skiing because over-ear designs contour to helmets and preserve situational awareness on slopes. Models like the Chips XV provide Bluetooth music and call support while sitting flush with helmet liners instead of fully covering the ear.

Bone conduction headphones are a great choice for running and cycling since they leave your ear canals open and let you hear traffic and surroundings. The Shokz OpenRun uses a behind-the-head hook for a secure fit, offers up to 8 hours of battery life, and is built for wet conditions.

For workouts and hikes, choose true wireless earbuds with sweat resistance and a low-profile fit; models like the Tags 2.0 carry an IPX4 rating to handle sweat and light splashes. They typically offer slim, all-day comfort and touch controls so you can manage music and calls without removing gear.

Most helmet audio speakers are designed to contour to helmet shells so they sit flush without fully blocking ears, using rugged over-ear pads for impact resistance in falls. Universal sizing, adjustable straps, and lightweight builds (often under 30g) help them stay secure without adding bulky weight.

Expect Bluetooth outdoor models to vary from simple playback to hands-free assistants and touch controls; for example, Chips XV handles music, calls, and voice assistants while Privates and Tags 2.0 offer true wireless touch control. Battery life depends on the style, with bone conduction options like the OpenRun offering up to about 8 hours of use.
