Kids Black' Camp

Think about how much they carry: a 5L lunch box is fine for snacks, while 12–13L packs like the Refugito 12L or Grom 13L work well for school or short hikes. Adjustable harnesses and torso fit (Grom 13L fits 11–15 inch torsos) keep packs comfortable under a 15-pound load.

For chilly nights, look for a sleeping bag with an EN/ISO comfort rating down to about 20°F and synthetic insulation to retain warmth even if damp. Many kids' bags sized for 4–5 foot children use narrow rectangular shapes that keep heat close to the body without excess weight.

Many kids' packs use nylon ripstop with polyurethane coatings for good water resistance and reinforced seams to handle abrasion on trails. Models like the Refugito 12L pair durable polyester with thoughtful construction so light packs under 2 pounds still stand up to muddy or wet conditions.

Hammocks with spreader bars are easiest for kids to get in and out of and set up quickly, while sleeping pads with abrasion-resistant bottoms add campsite comfort and durability. Choose gear rated for fair conditions and sized for children (pads and hammocks scaled to 4–5 foot heights) for a safer, cozier sleep.

Start with moisture-wicking merino wool socks like Darn Tough to reduce friction and keep feet dry, and pair them with supportive trail shoes such as Merrell Ontario boots for reliable grip. Proper sock fit and a boot with good tread will cut down on hotspots and slippage on uneven trails.
