Gravel & Cyclocross Cleats & Small Parts

For mud-prone cyclocross you’ll want two-bolt SPD-style or Eggbeater cleats that prioritize mud shedding and low release tension. Their metal or composite construction and recessed mounting with about 6–10mm stack height help repeatable engagement in thick mud.

Float choice depends on how much lateral movement you want; 0°, 2°, and 6° are common, with 6° giving more forgiveness while 0° feels more locked in for sprinty sections. Pair that with lower release tension if you expect quick exits on rough or technical trails.

Match cleats to your pedal brand because the two-bolt pattern is SPD-style and must align with Shimano, Time, or Crankbrothers pedal interfaces. Also confirm fore-aft and side-to-side adjustability so the cleat won’t contact the shoe tread during pedaling.

Recessed two-bolt cleats improve walkability by sitting inside the shoe sole so rubber tread can contact the ground during dismounts. Check shoe sole clearance and spike/stud compatibility, because the recess limits very aggressive cleat angles.

Gravel shoes typically use medium torsional rigidity and durable materials like nylon or composite soles for comfort over long, rough rides, while XC setups favor higher stiffness for maximal power transfer. Models such as the Fizik Terra Atlas (wide toe box, L6 Boa dial) and the Quoc Gran Tourer XC show how fit and materials shift toward comfort or support depending on your goals.
