Why We Like The Smartwool Intraknit Merino Tech Full-Zip Top

It's rare to find a baselayer that can reliably be worn for almost any activity and fills so many roles, but the Smartwool Intraknit Merino Tech Full-Zip Top is a true jack-of-all-trades. It can easily find its way into any layering system, comfortably being worn next to our skin, as a mid-layer, or serving as a jacket on warmer, drier days. The Intraknit technology allows the jacket to move and breathe, as well as acting as an insulating layer. With protection from wind and light rain built right in, we can reliably take this jacket wherever big adventures await without worry that it will be wasting space in our pack.

Zipper doesn't work very well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Requires a lot of fiddling to get it to zip

Really strange proportions

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The proportions were all very odd. I'm usually a medium, so I bought a medium. This sweater fit tight around my chest and core but then the shoulders were too bulky, the arms were too long and the articulated elbows were above my elbows (which is strange when you think that the arms were too long). I ended up returning it. I didn't buy a small b/c I didn't want it to fit tighter around my chest/core even if the arms were the right length.

Good idea but poor execution

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to like this full zip but the styling and fit is poorly executed. There are patches of material on the elbows that bulge out awkwardly, and the cuffs of the sleeves are strangely elongated and seem like they will wear and fray quickly. I will be returning this item.

Surprisingly good!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] At first I was skeptical because of the feel of the fabric. I thought it wouldn't breathe well or be very warm. But after a few outings I'm in love. It does breathe well, even comfortable enough to wear inside. It is not warm like a down jacket, but it's a great layering piece that adds a little extra comfort when it's cool out, or under a puffy for when it's real cold and you want to keep a little warmth when you go inside, but don't want to keep a coat on. Also, I love the fact that the sleeves are long enough that I can use the thumb holes. I'm 6'1" and 170 so a medium fits my body but is usually a little short on me. This one fits me really well! And my wife says I look good in it!

Surprisingly good!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm still finding the best use for this. It's a little heavier (in ounces) than I normally want for a backcountry piece. But I'm loving it for just general wear as a light shell on cool days, and under a puffy on cold days.
