Why We Like The Helly Hansen Cascade Mid HT Hiking Boot
The Helly Hansen Cascade Mid HT Hiking Boot is up to unpredictable weather conditions. The HellyTech Performance membrane sandwiches a waterproof and windproof membrane in between a water resistant outer layer and breathable lining to keep us comfortable and dry in wet and dry conditions. We like the mix of proprietary Helly Hansen technologies that improve our hiking experience, too, including cushioned insoles, arch support, a reinforced heel cup and toe cap, and durable, multi-directional grip for traction on all hiking surfaces.

Helly Hansen the best!

Ordered these after previous poor purchase from another brand. At first decided the tread is low and they are not suitable for hiking. Tried them in one of the most difficult tracks in the mountain area. The track included rocky terrain, scree, rock climbing, snow obstacles. Yes, there are scratches from the stones, but the grip with the surface is perfect!

Comfortable but one complaint

The boots are pretty comfortable out of the box, we have done about 60 miles of hiking in Colorado in them and not much to complain about except for the soul. The soul has been nearly falling apart on them, and does not respond well to rocky terrain as it just tear in small chunks. I think we can get another 60-80 miles out of them but that’s about it.

Nice boot, except for the ankle

I have tiny feet, so I was thrilled to find a waterproof hiking boot (with actual laces) in a size 5.5. These are the first pair of HHs that I’ve owned, and I do quite like them. I like the fit, I like the color, and I like the grip of the sole. The one thing I can’t get over is how they massively dig into both sides of my ankles. It is unbearable. I tried bandaids, physio tape, thick socks, different ways to lace and tie them — nothing worked. I think it’s the area where the tongue meets the side of the side of the boot. There’s a decent seam there, and no extra padding around it, and I’m assuming that is the issue. I ended up having to purchase nylon socks with gel ankle pads built in, designed for ice skating, just to make them bearable. Once they weren’t digging into my ankles, they were pretty comfortable. I’ve worn them on several multi-mile hikes without further issues. If they didn’t kill my ankles, they would be a 5 star boot.
