For wet rides, synthetic rubber with a tacky finish offers the most secure control without gloves. These materials are designed for superior wet grip and perform well on typical 22–24mm bars.

If you expect long endurance efforts, aim for padding in the 1.5–3mm range and consider gel backings for extra shock absorption. EVA-plus foams or Selle San Marco’s responsive materials strike a good balance between comfort and bar feel during sustained hand positions.

Wrapping tri bars cleanly usually starts at the shifter bases or aero bends, using 2000–2500mm rolls and 1/3 to 1/2 inch overlaps to avoid gaps. Apply steady tension as you go so the tape sits flush and cheaper tapes are less likely to tear.

Low-profile tapes reduce bulk around aerobars and can improve hand positioning on time trials; slim options like the Silca Nastro Fiore are built specifically for that aero feel. They also tend to be lighter—often toward the 50–80g per roll range—which helps keep the cockpit tidy.

Durable tapes use premium construction, adhesive inner layers, and higher stretch tolerance—look for stretch factors up to 20% and reinforced edges as signs of longevity. Also consider materials and backing type; gel or quality EVA options and models like BBB Cycling EVA-foam are designed to handle regular training sweat.
