Fingerboards, Rungs, & Rings

Measure your hand span and match it to a board around 22–24 inches long and 8–12 inches wide so holds line up comfortably. Pick spacing that lets you train both crimps and open-hand grips without overreaching, and look for adjustable or modular pockets if your hand size is between standard spacings.

Boards made from resin or sustainable beech offer rigid, long-lasting holds, and many training boards feature edge depths between 10–20mm for crimp work. Models like Beastmaker also provide ergonomic 15–25mm edges for progressive training, which helps you build strength without harsh edges.

Free-hanging rock rings are ideal for travel and compact home gyms because they’re lightweight—often under 2kg—and mount with adjustable straps to fit shoulder-width setups. Choose ball-shaped or slat-style rings made from durable plastic or wood for moderate outdoor or indoor use.

For stable tech skating, aim for a deck around 96mm by 394mm with a concave profile and proper kingpin alignment, paired with 32mm trucks for predictable turning. Components made from maple laminate or foam-core decks and aluminum trucks work well, and grip options like Teak Tuning gecko tape give varied adhesion for different footwork.

Bushing durometer affects responsiveness: soft silicone gives livelier turns while hard rubber duros stiffen the setup, and adjustable tension O-ring bushings let you fine-tune feedback. For shape retention and consistent feel, parts like Slushcult Rattlerz O-rings in medium rubber hold their profile well, and standard 608 bearings pair with 50mm-compatible O-ring setups.
