Blue Cups, Mugs, & Flasks

For overnight backpacking favor ultralight titanium or collapsible silicone — a 450ml titanium cup can weigh under 3oz and a 480ml silicone mug folds flat to about 1cm to save pack space. For car camping or basecamp, larger 30oz or 40oz double-wall tumblers hold more and keep drinks at serving temperature all day.

Double-wall models like Stanley flasks are rated to retain heat around 6–7 hours for hot liquids, while higher-end vacuum-insulated tumblers offer up to 12+ hour temperature control. Pairing a snug lid, such as a MagSlider on a tumbler, also helps maintain heat and cut down on spills.

Most collapsible silicone cups pack down very small — many fold to roughly 1cm thick and come in 250ml or 480ml sizes for flexibility. The Sea to Summit X-Mug 480ml is a good example that packs flat yet still has a stable lip and base when expanded.

Titanium cups are corrosion-proof and designed for rugged use, with single-wall 450ml options often weighing under 3oz for true ultralight performance. They won’t insulate like double-wall stainless steel, but their strength-to-weight ratio makes them a smart choice for long-distance hiking.

Lids vary by model, but MagSlider lids are common on travel tumblers for splash resistance and easy sipping; the Yeti Rambler 14oz Mug 2.0 is one familiar example. Larger 40oz tumblers often feature leak-resistant designs too, and user ratings on those sizes frequently note good performance for grip and spill control.
