Boys' Blue Hike & Camp Shorts

Think about the activity first: hybrid or pull-on shorts with a nylon-spandex blend suit light hiking and trail walking, while cargo utility styles work best for rugged day hikes where you need extra pockets. A DWR finish or ripstop fabric helps in rough conditions and casual camp use.

Most families favor elastic waists and adjustable options that cover sizes roughly 2–20 or XS–XL, and inseams typically range from 5–9 inches to fit different heights. Also look for a gusseted crotch or relaxed fit to give extra room for movement and growth.

Yes—over ten models feature UPF 50+ for reliable sun protection during long days outside. The Patagonia Matkassa Short is a good example with lightweight 4-way stretch and UPF 50+, so it’s a smart choice for sunny hikes.

Quick-dry styles on this page are rated to dry in under an hour for many of the 18 quick-dry options, and moisture-wicking polyester helps pull sweat away from skin for faster evaporation. The Outdoor Everyday Short, for example, uses quick-dry nylon and side vents that speed drying and comfort.

You’ll find built-in liners and double-layered liners on several styles for abrasion resistance, plus cargo pockets on utility shorts to carry gear on trail days. For heavy-duty use, check ripstop construction and reinforced seams—models like the Class V Pathfinder Pull-On combine cargo utility with an elastic, no-fuss fit.
