Why We Like The BLUE ICE Harfang Alpine Crampon
For packable technical performance, we depend on the featherweight BLUE ICE Harfang Alpine Crampon. The patented Dyneema-blend linking system sheds grams while holding strong in harsh alpine conditions and packing down small to clip conveniently to our pack's waist belt. Despite the flexible main strap, this crampon still gives us support and confidence on vertical ice thanks to the elongated front rail increasing rigidity and the left-right asymmetrical design increasing front point precision.

Compact steel crampon, misfit toe bails
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I just purchased these 2 weeks ago and have used them twice so far. I was looking for compact crampons with steel fronts and backs for ski mountaineering and these fit the need. They performed well during use when climbing in shallow powder on crust, refrozen snow, and minor ice, with a few spots of rock and vegetation to navigate. They came with both toe bails and toe straps for semi-auto or automatic modes. However, the toe bails do not sit well on my toe welts on my size 29.5 boots. It took over an hour to get the crampons to fit well enough that I was comfortable using them with the bails, and I would not use them in a high consequence environment in that state. No matter how much I tightened them, applying pressure in the right direction on the toe bail with just my fingers made them pop off the welt 100% of the time. I also have a pair of broken Blue Ice Harfangs (all aluminum), I swapped the bails over from the old, broken pair. The old bails sit nice on the welts and are good to go. Happy with the product since I was able to make it work, but quite disappointed it did not work out the the box. If I did not have the old bails to use, this would be a 1 star review and I would be looking to return the product for a refund.
