    They just don't hold up!!!

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have purchased 5 pair of the Diamond Spike trail crampons based on their light weight and performance. My wife and daughters all have used them. The problem is, I've broken 3 of the 5 with minimal use. In another review I saw that someone else left them in the bag and the cable rusted and broke! Same as one of my pair. For an outdoor tool that lives in the snow, it seems crazy that the cables are not stainless steel. Two of the pair I've purchased broke while putting them on. The rubber rand that is supposed to secure them to your shoe broke in both cases. If this happens in the field or if the cable breaks, you could be in trouble if you're on an icy trail. (The reason you're wearing them!) It's pretty clear that the company has little confidence in the durability of their product when they offer only a 90 day warranty! There are decidedly better and more durable trail crampons out there. I would recommend searching them out lest you find yourself on an icy trail, slipping and sliding on a broken traction device! And, believe me...the company doesn't care!

    Super Helpful!

    Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Easy to put on, just enough traction and can fit around all types of shoes. Definitely adds some support for icy conditions and a great purchase for a nice price!

    Lightweight and Functional

    Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

While not as aggressive as some other micro-spike options, these are a great lightweight choice for hiking - or even trail running - on snowy, icy, or otherwise slippery terrain that you can throw in your bag without a second thought. Whether over hiking boots or trail runners, wearing these increased my confidence and improved my posture on slick trails tenfold (no hunching to avoid slipping) and made the experience of winter hiking so much more enjoyable. UPDATE: I took these up some pretty aggressive terrain and they performed well overall, but one of them broke during a fall on the descent and was lost to the snowy abyss. This was an extreme scenario that pushed (and found) the limits of this product, but I had hoped for more durability. I docked 1 star, but still think these are a great lightweight solution for more mellow terrain.

    Great for Ice

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

If you are ever tired of slipping on the ice while walking around the neighborhood or walking the dog these are a great option for sure. The diamond grip provides many angles of traction when walking around. They are great for walking the dog when the dog gets excited and pulls on the leash the yaktrax will grip and help you stop from falling. They fit over most winter boots and shoes but I have found that if you want to us them on like the Sorel Caribou boot you will need to get a size bigger.

    These really work

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have used these for more than 4 years and love them. Whether hiking on packed ice and snow or getting a little extra traction on mud or shoveling snow off the front walk, these really are what they claim to be. I just bought another pair as a gift for my Dad. I would highly recommend them, especially for hikers who like hiking on snowpacked trails or icy trails.

    Can't Winter Hike Without Them!

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

My go to for hiking icy winter trails. It is perfect for those hikes where you don't need snowshoes, but they are still a little too slick. They are a necessity for any winter hiker!

    Great for winter trails.

These work great for packed snow trails and ice during winter and even when it starts to get a little bit slushy. These are also very easy to get on and off and fit true to size. Great to be able to get out in the winter months and let the dogs run.

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my wife as a gift and she said they fit well and stay on the shoe when hiking. They're for a little extra grip when she's hiking during these spring months.

Any reason for docking two stars? I'm considering these, so I'm curious why you didn't give 'em a 5/5...

    Great Crampon for Winter Hikes!

    Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Awesome pair of crampons from Yaktrax! I've used these a couple times on winter hikes with substantial elevation gains and have been really impressed so far. The Diamond Grip is super durable and gets great traction. Would highly recommend if you are considering a pair.

A Definite Need for Frequent Snow Hiker

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These things are amazing. I have no idea why I ever tried to hike in slick conditions without these. They work great on boot pack trails when things get slick. I use these on basic day hikes to mountaineering when slopes aren't too icy or inclined. They are light weight which makes them great to throw in the pack for "just in case" conditions. They have taking a beating from snow, ice, rocks, and sand and have had no durability issues. I use these on my Asolo hiking boots. I wouldn't recommend these for use with shoes. They are very tight around the boot, which would cause a flimsy shoe too curl up. There are some less "intense" versions that would be better for that.

    Tough Chains

These are a little sturdier than the YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon. I bought these as a Christmas gift for my dad, who intends to wear em in Iceland during the winter. The chain metal on the bottom will hopefully stand up to rougher terrain YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon and, upon our initial inspection, they do seem to be a little more rugged.

    Great for winter trail running!

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

So thankful for these genius inventions! They allow me to trail run even in crazy winter conditions. I wear a pair of smalls over a size 8 Altra Lone Peak trail running shoes which have treads but not enough for snowy trails. I've been able to run on some pretty slippery terrain thanks to these guys. They are probably too intense for sidewalk ice but they do very well on off road snowy trails or roads with a pretty thick layer of ice and snow.
