Vela Double Quilt: 32F Down

Nikwax is a brand that specializes in waterproofing and cleaning products. When applied to the down insulation of a sleeping bag, it makes the down hydrophobic, meaning it can resist moisture. This is crucial for maintaining warmth in wet conditions, ensuring that your sleeping bag keeps you cozy even if the weather turns damp.

DWR is a coating applied to the outer fabric of your sleeping bag that makes it water-resistant. This means that water will bead up and roll off the surface instead of soaking in, helping to keep you dry during unexpected rain or damp conditions. A sleeping bag with DWR is essential for outdoor adventures where moisture is a concern.

Box baffled construction involves creating compartments within the sleeping bag that hold insulation in place. This design maximizes the loft (fluffiness) of the insulation, which enhances warmth retention and minimizes cold spots. As a result, you’ll stay warmer and more comfortable throughout the night.

Full-perimeter side baffles are additional fabric walls along the sides of the sleeping bag that help trap heat and prevent drafts. They create a barrier that keeps cold air from entering the bag, significantly enhancing warmth and comfort. This feature is especially beneficial for chilly nights when you want to retain as much heat as possible.

The EN Comfort Rating is a standardized measurement that indicates the temperature range in which a sleeping bag will keep you comfortable. For example, a sleeping bag with a rating of 41°F is designed to keep you warm at temperatures down to that level. Understanding this rating helps you choose the right sleeping bag for your camping or backpacking needs, ensuring you stay comfortable in various weather conditions.

Yes! A sleeping bag treated with Nikwax is specifically designed to perform well in wet conditions. The hydrophobic down insulation will resist moisture, and the DWR coating on the outer fabric will help repel water. This combination allows you to stay warm and dry, making it an excellent choice for camping in unpredictable weather.
