Why We Like The Secret Chain Blend
Keeping up to date on the maintenance of your bike is important, but we know it can be a pain sometimes. Thankfully, Silca designed the Secret Chain Blend to make it easier for us. This hot wax chain blend consists of a high concentration of 3 nano-scale Tungsten disulfide and highly refined paraffin. The Secret Chain Blend not only acts as a lubricant but also modifies the surface of the chain by filling the metal with wear-resistant tungsten disulfide particles. As the only hot wax to match the compatible drip wax, topping off the wax to your chain as needed extends the duration needed between applications and ensures a super quiet drivetrain.

My drivetrain will never be the same
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I recently decided to make the switch to waxed chains, and I know I'll never go back. The up-front cost isn't exactly cheap if you get the good stuff, but the cost is worth it for the performance, increased life-span of components, and long-term savings. Silca is a premium brand with a premium price, but you get what you pay for. I've been very happy with this wax. Combined with their Waxing Systems, the job becomes pretty simple after a few reps. Highly recommended!

Extremely long chain break in Duraace 12
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Beware of very long break in period when starting with a new DA 12 speed chain (not an issue with my 11 speed, may have something to do with the coatings). Stiff chain and skipping cog for 1 hour. 11T still skipping under load for 3.5-4 hours.

secret chain blend wax for bike chains

I switched to waxing pre-covid ( a date now?) I started on my wifes bike to eliminate the chainring tatoo on her right calf. Then I moved to my "pavement princess" roadbike and really like the quietness and cleanliness. After some use, I realized that although the wax is only good for say 500 road miles in dry without touching, the re-application is super easy b/c you just redunk in the hot wax, I DON'T clean before redunking. My chain has been lasting longer to, I keep checking the "wear indicator" but it's not wearing, maybe my wear indicator is broken. As a hint, if you go this way, when the chain comes out, let it cool. Then pull it around a 1" rod, I use my roll around garbage can lid, and pull both rotational directions a bit to "free the chain up" then lightly shake or brush and it'll get most of the excess outside wax off. The chain is ready to install and good for hundred's of miles. I've switched now on my MTB for wet and nasty, I actually think this is still working better than liquid lubricants there to, but I need more time to test that. Good Luck.

Nice clean way to lube your drivetrain
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Waxing a chain seemed like overkill and a hassle but I'm really glad I switched over to wax. I don't know if I'm any faster but my drive train is much quieter. Not having a dirty chain is a big plus and I don't have to worry about lubing my chain on regular basis. Most of my rides are on dry gravel so having a dry lube chain works for me. I'm thinking about keeping a wet chain around as a backup for those times when I'm riding in wet and/or muddy conditions.
