    Sweet short reach dirt drop

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently bought a Breezer Radar with the Oval Concepts 325 dirt drop bar stock. This one had a nicer drop, but mainly a shorter reach, bringing the hand position to more where I like it. I'll actually be buying another soon, as I want to try the 46cm version. I've got abut 500 miles on it so far.

This is, quite simply, an amazing bar

I ride a Salsa Marrakesh for touring. According to the FAQ on the Salsa website this bar was designed for gravel and cyclocross however, the Marrakesh (Salsa's full up touring bike) comes equipped with a Cowchipper handlebar; it is perfect for touring with loaded panniers. I've ridden a little over 6000 miles with this bar and absolutely love it. In contrast, my Specialized Roubaix Expert came with a Specialized Hover bar which was great riding on the hoods or cross bar but very unstable on the hooks and drops. Consequently I very seldom rode on the drops. I just replaced the Specialized bar with a Cowchipper and believe me, the 24 degree flare in the drops makes the Roubaix a lot more stable and comfortable. Its also kinda cool to look down and see nothing but road under your bars and it does add a flare (pun intended) to my Roubaix. This is not just a touring or gravel bike bar. Get one - you're gonna love it. I'd recommend the exact same width bar as you are currently using. The geometry is pretty much the same as the road bars drop angle (reach, drop), it just has the 24 degree flare with the bar ends about 14 cm wider than a normal bar.
