So, you want to start climbing outside?

The Petzl Djinn Carabiner comes in both straight gate and bent gate versions for beginning climbers who are looking to leave the gym and climb some crags with dependable, rugged equipment. This aluminum biner has an H-shaped cross section to give it a superb strength-to-weight ratio, and its keylock nose lets you practice clipping perfectly without any snagging. The D-shape has a wide contact surface area that also helps you clip efficiently, and it also allows better rope glide that reduces wear on it for excellent longevity. Purchase the straight gate for clipping bolts and the bent gate for clipping your rope.

    'Biner Therapy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Hardly knowing what I was getting into, I bought a Djinn carabiner at a mountaineering shop in VT. I liked how it felt in my hand and it clipped so smoooothly onto stuff. I have since started rock climbing and now have a cadre of these on my rack. If ever I get anxious, I fondle my 'biners for a minute and I'm good to go. And clipping-smooth as astroglide.

    Update of a Classic

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am a huge fan of the Djinn carabiner, mostly because they took my all time favorite carabiner, the Petzl Spirit, and basically just made it a little bigger/easier to clip. It has the exact same feel and action of the Spirit and they even managed to make it cheaper. There is a lot to like about the Petzl Djinn.

    Pretty Heavy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I usually aim to get lighter carabiners for my quick draws. These are pretty heavy compared to some other competitors. If you are looking for a workhorse carabiner that can take a lot of heavy falls, this is your guy!
