Good vest - light, warm, and packable
Great vest for backpacking. Very light and packable. It generally runs similar in size to the SuperStrand hoodie but it's a bit longer than the jacket. Perhaps it's just how it fits me. Regardless, it's a great mid layer or even an outer layer depending on the temps.

Perfect for skiing/boarding, mountain biking and hiking!
I use it for Alpine and Backcountry skiing. It is perfect to pack and is unbelievably warm. Protects from wind and with a good base layer does everything I need it. It is also stylish enough to wear apres ski. I have not used it for other sports yet, but I can see it also being perfect for early morning mountain biking and hiking. I love this vest!

another keeper piece from Outdoor Research
Just that extra touch of warmth maybe a little bit more and without the bulk. Its feather light. Needs a chest pocket but zippers and extra material add weight I get it. Glad I purchased this vest as it is easily a quick grab go to especially with the mild winter so far in the PNW. It will be with me every time I am carrying a day pack as well while skiing.

Super lightweight and warm!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just purchased the Superstrand LT vest. Absolutely love it. It's weightless and I forget I am wearing it!

Don't believe the hype
I can think of use cases for this vest because it is very lightweight, but I have to strain to think of them. It is light in weight, but it adds very minimal warmth, degraded even further by the lack of sealing around the arm holes and waist. I believe the SuperStrand is marketed as an alternative to down, but with the amount of insulation actually present, that is a ridiculous comparison. The insulation in this jacket appears to be comprised of a single, very thin sheet. (I have a down jacket of about the same weight that is perhaps 5 to 10 times warmer.) Pro's ----- Very light (around 6 oz) Very thin Easy to wear under another layer because it is very thin and also doesn't have sleeves Takes up minimal space when compressed Interior drop pockets on each side Hand pockets feel soft Con's ----- Very little insulation (almost no loft) No elastic or seal mechanism around arm holes: heat loss. Best to wear a jacket over it to encourage sealing No drawcord or elastic around waist Would like it a two inches shorter in front so it doesn't bunch up when sitting Hand pockets blocked by backpack waist belt No chest pocket(s) Fabric is non-breathable Sizing: I think Outdoor Research sizing tends to run large compared to other outdoor brands.

Efficient warmth
I am sold on Superstrand after this made the difference on Mt. Toubkal. It locked in enough warmth under my jacket to enable the summit in the middle of an October storm. So lite I don't notice it. Just wish it stuffed into one of the pockets and zipped closed. At least the pocket liner is detached on top to act as an internal drop pocket; which can be inverted and stuffed for packing.

Light weight and super warm
I'll admit when I picked this vest up I was a little hesitant on its warmth keeping abilities do to its light weight and fragile feel. Let's just say I was very impressed how well it works to keep me warm. This is a great little vest. I would think the full sleeve jacket version would be too warm for me on a regular basis in the spring time in the PNW so this is perfect for my needs of casual walking around and hiking in 40-50 degree weather. Over 55 degrees walking around I start sweating with this and a long sleeve shirt on. Very happy with this purchase.
