    Gamechanger

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 130lbs

This is the first down jacket I've ever owned and it's a game-changer! Warm enough for cold nights camping and roomy enough that I can layer under it but still fitted enough to put a shell over it for rain. I got a medium for my wide hips and I'm very pleased with the fit! Look forward to many adventures yet to come in this cozy coat.

    Really warm Mid-layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I used this ice climbing, on a "warm" day, under my waterproof shell. It was about a 30 degree day. By the end of each pitch, I was a bit warm. But, then would get back to a comfortable temp, while I was standing and belaying the next pitch. Had it been a more normal day for ice climbing, like between 5-25 degrees, this jacket would have been perfect.

The fit is true to size. I'm usually a medium and wore the medium. It did fit under my shell. It's puffy, so the jacket was full, for sure. But, not uncomfortably so. I was able to climb in it and didn't feel restricted swinging, breathing or anything like that. It's just not the most flattering, but that's because it's such a warm, puffy coat.

There are warmer puffies out there, but I would say that this is the warmest you can get, and still layer under a shell.

    Really warm Mid-layer

    Just the right puffy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I’ve struggled to find a “puffy” that fits hourglass figures (translated “busty”). This fits great! It has full range of motion without feeling bulky. As others have said, the sleeves are long, but the elastic on the cuffs prevents them from falling down over my hands...it IS nice to pull them over hands for cold hikes/commutes, incidentally.
The down fill on this is great- I feel warm, but not toooo warm, and can even layer it for skiing, which is just what I was hoping for. It has become my “everyday” choice (and I have a closet full of options).

Purchased as a gift. Wife loves it. She reports that it fits well, very comfortable. She wore in some light rain more than a few time and It repels rain great. She wears the jacket as an everyday jacket. Really likes because it doesn't get too too warm. Really, works well and warm when paired with rain shell. The jacket is very stylish looking. The Oasis color is a brilliant blue, very attractive. Molting, with her jacket, is almost non existent. Very plush, soft feel. Has held up to pack straps and backpacking activities very well. Fit is trim...which equals small. I purchased XL because I knew she would wear causal most of the time. Perfect fit. No snags, tears or abrasions. Not bad to smell like campfire smoke. Freshens up quickly. Packs very small. Overall great jacket! Both myself and my wife are very happy. Another great product OR.

Warm, Functional, and Cute to Boot!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    • Size Bought: XS

I was looking for a puffy that I could wear climbing, skiing, and even casually -- the Outdoor Research Sonata really does the trick. The 650 - fill down provides just enough warmth to keep me warm during belays on cold evenings, while still being breathable on a steep approach to the crag carrying all of my climbing gear or even during a climb! I also wear this jacket to the office every single day now. I own it in the Raspberry/Desert Sunrise color which is a really great subtle tone and plays up my monochromatic wardrobe.

This jacket also fits really well under the Outdoor Research Skyward Jacket as a midlayer! Not bulky and doesn't restrict movement when worn beneath it. The Sonata itself provides enough room to wear thicker layers underneath it as well.

I have yet to wear this jacket skiing as it hasn't snowed, but I plan on updating this review when that time comes! The only con to this jacket is that the down pokes through and I find myself shedding on friends' couches -- but that's to be expected with 650 - fill down.

Otherwise, great jacket from a respectable brand!

    Great initial impressions

When I first grabbed this jacket I thought it might be too light to be able to provide any sort of warmth, but I was wrong! Just putting my arm into the sleeve for a few minutes got toasty pretty quick! The inside of the pockets are lined with a nice felt-like material to provide more warmth for your hands. The collar is lined with the same material by your mouth so if its zipped all the way up it wont bother you. The hood is a nice size and can tightened down nice and easily for a tighter fit!

    Sleeves are WAY too long

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I got a large (150lb and 5'6"). The sleeves went beyond my fingertips and it overall looked big in the arms and shoulders. Fit around my waist/hips perfectly. The problem is, if i go down a size, I'm afraid it won't fit around the waist. Other than the size problem, I had great delivery and processing with backcountry. The quality of jacket was nice, I just wish it would have fit right.

    • Height: 5'6"

Came on time....felt light....was light...airless yet SOOO amazingly warm! I am 5'6" and 135lbs tri-athlete ...also mother of 4 so can't handle the longer coats cause my legs are always moving. Shocked at the lightness and warmth. Lastly, I never carry a purse so chest pocket, 2 zippered exterior and 2 interior pockets are great.....cell phone keys cash credit card...plenty of room for things and movement ;-) color true to picture.
