It can be hard to find refuge from the cold on frigid mountaineering missions if you don't pack along the proper gear. The OR Refuge Pants feature the warm yet breathable VerticalX insulation, which was made specifically for intensive high-output pursuits in cold conditions. Combined with a breathable fabric treatment, VerticalX works to keep you at an optimal temperature by allowing just the right amount of heat to escape as you push up steep ascents and technical ice climbing routes. It still maintains the right amount of warmth, however; so you won't find yourself lamenting the active insulation when you're taking a rest. Meanwhile, these pants provide a movement-mirroring stretch on technical alpine terrain, have double-separating side zippers for ventilation and convenience, and boast a special rear pocket that doubles as a stuff sack when you're packing up for longer trips and excursions.

Lightweight for the level of warmth! I bought the refuge jacket (L) and the refuge pant (M), and they fit well for my 6'1, 175#, 32x32 body. The outer material is almost durable enough to be used as an outer layer, but I wouldn't want to get it significantly wet or let it rub on anything. I use these under goretex pro shell pants to make a bombproof pair of snowpants.

belay pants
Very warm. True to fit but roomy enough to layer over, I usually wear over pants or tights but occasionally under shell pants. Well constructed, flexible.

Almost perfect
I really do like these pants and would give them 5 stars except for one thing. They will not zip over the cuffs of either my AT or Telemark boots. That being said the insulation is light yet warm and is also comfortable over a broad temperature range. They also do fit over the Donjoy Knee braces I have to now wear while skiing.

Great addition to my winter kit....
High quality and performance in cold weather; full length side zips and built in storage pocket stuff sack. Work great as an additional layer when hiking and climbing in Winter! True to size; small would have been a better fit for me; medium size provides more room when wearing over other winter layers. I normally wear a 30 waist and 30 inseam and should have ordered a SMALL due to the elastic band. Medium size works but a little more room than necessary. Still a great product.

Snowboarding Review
Used for snowboarding at 12,000 ft in Colorado for two days. The pants let in no moisture and snow slid right off easily. I was worried at first because the coating did not seem to be the most durable compared to a strict ski pant. I was pleasantly surprised with its snow capabilities. They fit extremely well, I have a 32 waist and the medium fits perfectly. The insulation is very warm and soft, feels like upgraded sweat pants. The full zips on the sides are awesome for fitting and taking off with other bulky snow gear.

Really like these puffys for legs!
I got these for hut trips, snowmobile grooming, and late season hunting. I've used them a few times, once grooming, and they are easy to don over boots and toasty! I like that the entire back 1/2 is elastic, but they could still use some adjustments or suspender loops (I got a few velcro suspenders from other OR pants). I'll either go with some cinching in the waist or use clamp-style suspenders. I needed the length of the large, but the waist is too much. Not contented enough I suppose.
