    Crocodiles Gaiter

The names 'Cordura' and 'Gore-Tex' have both become legendary among outdoor enthusiasts. Both have come to symbolize utter dependability in their respective fields. One item that has helped to nurture this reputation is the Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiter. Equally legendary and nearly as famous, the Crocodile was the original high-performance weather- and mountain-proof gaiter. The Crocodile hasn't changed much over the years because its design was spot-on from the beginning. Besides having a triple-bartacked Biothane webbing instep strap and an additional tab that holds down the front opening, this Cordura and Gore-Tex masterpiece remains as it was in the beginning.

    • Burly gaiters give excellent coverage on mountaineering expeditions
    • Gore-Tex membrane ensures rugged waterproofing and breathability
    • Cordura fabric provides ultra durability against crampons and skis
    • BioThane instep strap ensures year-round dependability
    • Hook-and-loop front closure allows customized adjustments

    Great Gaiters

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I purchased these for my Girlfriend as an Xmas gift, and she has really loved them. She has worn them Nordic skiing over tights in lieu of snow pants, and that combination has allowed her to regulate her temperature a little better. The Mediums fit her well. She also has commented that she thinks the construction is really bomber. I suspect they will last a really long time.

    Snowshoe Worthy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love to hike and snowshoe! So ordered the Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiters for a recent mountain trip to go over my hiking boots and winter tights while snowshoeing. These gaiters definitely helped to keep the snow kicked up while hiking from sticking to my tights or the back of my calves. I ordered the size as recommended based on my shoe size; however, I have athletic calves and the velcro closure was a little tighter than I would have liked. Still the gaiters are worth the price. It would be nice if there was a little stretch for those of us with an athletic build.

Hi Devyn, and thank you for the review. We have a low gaiter with stretch called the Flex Tex, but isn't fully waterproof like the Croc. Adding stretch would add alot of cost, so we are sensitive to the price point already! Anyway, Happy trails and enjoy!

    Too wide for slim calves

When these gaiters arrived I could see they are well made, very study, attention to detail. I wear a shoe size 7.5, with rather slim calves and ankles. I was advised to get the Medium. Unfortunately I had to return because the circumference is way too big around for me, by about 2 inches. So even though the vertical velcro makes them somewhat adjustable, it was not nearly enough for me. And even when cinching the top, they were just too baggy.

      No need to Drip Dry

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

For any mountain venturing woman gaiters at one time or another will save your hike. These gaiters are up to the challenge any terrain, and any weather will throw at them. From hiking in rocky wet mountain paths, to snowshoeing through the snow these gaiters have an answer for it all.
Gore-Tex helps to keep your feet and pants dry and warm while you bustle through the terrains, and the cordura helps to keep them durable against your gear and the mountain.
These fit true to size for any normal volume individual. If you have large calves due to your awesome adventures size up. If not then go with your normal body measurements. I went with a small and am happy with that size option. I have normal body measurements, and my calves are not large.

I got my gators when I was in college and they were a part of our college's rental fleet. I liked them so much that they let me keep them. That was 10 years ago! And while I do not use them all the time, these things are burly and stand up to abuse. And for me having lived in Vermont, I preferred Gore-Tex for those swampy times of year for the ultimate protection. I don't see having to replace them anytime soon and they have moved across the country with me- they are a staple item to always have and when you start off with the cream of the crop- you will never look back!

      Great first impressions

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I first have to mention the quality feel these have when you first pick them up. They have the exact feeI of what I would want protecting my legs when going on excursions. They seem especially reenforced at the base around your boots, where most of the wear and tear would take place. The velcro on these is like none other, holding true and well after separating it several times. The straps and buckles on the bottoms of these both look and feel as if they can take some hefty abuse from the trails. A nice little side loop holds up the excess of the strap so it doesn't swing around your feet as you walk. Instead of a pull chord, there is an awesome locking strap at the top of these that is super easy to tighten when the trails get nasty and releases only when you're ready to loosen that up again.

You can count on these crocs!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When going home for Christmas, I used to steal these from my mom to go on winter hikes/jaunts through the woods to protect my feet and legs from the beloved snowy and wet conditions of the Adirondack mountains. The straps hold up well and they really do keep you dry, even when post-holing up to your knees! I finally ponied up and a bought a pair for myself, and wouldn't wear any other gaiter.

      Saved my legs

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wore these through nasty sharp bush hikes. Mostly in California and Washington. There was a lot of overgrowth on the trail I was hiking in. Instead of having bleeding legs- these helped protect me. I also wore them on soggy wet hiking trails in Washington. These were great to keep debris out of my shoes as well as protect me from a good amount of water. - Ultimately though - if you are backpacking and living outside for long periods of time while on the trail - you get wet eventually. - This just helps delay the inevitable. They were sturdy and comfortable. I have a muscular calf for a woman and my boots are usually 15 inch shaft. I wore the medium here with a size 9 keen targhee 2 mid boot. They are easy to put on and remove. I would recommend them to a friend. - However maybe not for hiking through the desert where I was. - I just found them super useful cause i was wearing shorts and my legs were getting so beat up!!

They do the trick, and they do it well.

I wear these while working. I am a biological technician and spend hours upon hours a day walking an average of over 9 miles over rough terrain, across nasty mud flats, and through thick sagebrush and cacti. These gaiters keep my pants, shoes, and socks dry on even the wettest days, and the straps that go under my boots do a perfect job and stand up to even the worst abuse by mud and me knocking and scraping it off on the edge of a concrete pad.

I haven't had the opportunity to test them against a prairie rattler, but I don't doubt they would be able to fend off the fangs of those guys, either! (Don't test that theory; this is worst case scenario.)

      They won't die

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had these gaiters for several years and beat them to death and they are still great. They are easy to put on and take off. They stay in place, they keep me warm and dry and rocks and crampons have yet to destroy them. I just bought a second pair for my daughter.

      5 Star Performance

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been using the Crocodile Gaiters for 8 years and I am still on my first pair. They are build of solid material that is comfortable yet can take rough environment. I frequently scramble on sharp rock and abrasive snow and there is hardly any wear visible on them. They even survived multiple crampon encounters with only one 1/2 inch tear. Great product I know I can rely on.

      5 Star Performance

What would be the best size to fit the circumference of my size 10 snowboard boots? I bought another brand gaiter according to their size chart and they were far too small to fit the circumference of my snowboard boots.

This may be a question for outdoor research but why is it that the women's version of these gaiters is cordura but the men's is gore-tex?

Hey Jordan, sorry for anything unclear here. The Croc gaiter, both men's and women's is GoreTex with cordura on the bottom for durability. They are exactly the same except for size. Hope that helps!

What is the difference between the men's and women's model of this OR Crocodile gaiter?

The only difference is the sizing. I have a pair of Men's large for my insulated mountaineering boots and a pair of Women's medium for my regular backpacking boots. They're equally durable but the Women's ones are significantly smaller to fit smaller feet.

Do these give any protection to snake bites

      and how tall are they

      Hey Rod,

Looks like you have a lot of questions on a lot of different gaiters. I would like to point out that we do have a live chat system where you can speak directly to a customer service agent literally 24/7 including Christmas morning.

As far as all the gaiters you have been looking at so far these are probably going to give you the best protection against snake bites but these do not have the poly-carbonate panels sewn into them that most gaiters that are designed to protect against snake bites. Again, these are better than naught but there are again better options out there.

Oh, almost forgot. These are 16 inches tall.
