Can store trail maps and school work.

The Osprey Quasar Backpack transitions from trails to campuses without a problem. Padded pockets for your laptop and tablet, stash and side pockets for water bottles, and a front panel organizer brings a whole lot of convenience. Made with Spacer mesh, the back panel and shoulder straps ensure proper airflow and comfort whether you're sprinting across campus or strolling down the trail. The backpack's nylon fabrication remains durable for years of use, and there is a removable waistbelt to give you more support when you need it. Compression and bungee straps keep the contents of your bag secure when it's time to beat feet.

    Best in Class

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My kids argued over who would get this one.

We looked at lots of packs in this size, and this was the standout. Nearly as comfortable as the Marmot Tool Box and Patagonia Refugio, and as sturdy as the TNF Borealis, this is by far the easiest daypack to load. The pictures up top don't show it, but its single main compartment opens so wide that you can take a big item (like a 14" binder) and just place it inside, instead of fitting each corner then sliding it down. And it still has good organization for smaller items, including a laptop sleeve, all accessed through that wide-opening main compartment.

    Winner. Well done, Osprey.

    A Multi Use Machine

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Not many packs can function perfectly as your everyday city/school bag and also double as a weekend getaway bag for hiking/camping/travelling. I've used similar versions of this bag for more than 7 years as my everyday bag, and can say that both the bag and Osprey's warranty program are top notch. Would definitely buy again.

    In love

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I’ve had backpacks come and go in my life, and I’ve never been exceptionally satisfied with any of them. I became interested after seeing and using an osprey bag my brother purchased. So I decided to purchase one myself. All I can say is that I’ll never need another bag again, everything I need fits and it’s very intuitive, not to mention it’s tough as nails.

    Osprey Never Fails!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed an everyday bag for hiking, travel, riding my bike, going to work, etc. I've been using Osprey for years and have never been disappointed in any of their products. This bag was no exception!

I've already been using it to go on hikes and I'll be using it next as a small travel bag. It has plenty of compartments and it is able to fit everything I want. I no longer have to fret on space if I want to bring an extra layer. or throw in a book.

    I recommend this bag!

    Amazing backpack and osprey!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought it about 6 years ago, as a day pack. It holds a lot of stuff, with many organizers. 2 years ago, I found back mesh or somewhere was broken. So I contacted Osprey for repair. Surprisingly, they ended up sending me a new one. Big thump up!

    Osprey 24/7 Product Tour

Check out the great features of the Osprey 24/7 series, including the Quasar for men. The women's version is the Questa, which has a shorter torso length for a better fit and a different color pallet. Enjoy!

    perfect size

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This backpack fits my needs perfectly. Bought it for day hikes. Plenty of room for assorted gear, phone, water, extra clothes. Seems to be well made and comfortable

    Indestructible - unfortunately

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The only bad thing about this pack its that i´m somehow addicted to buying packs. But this one after 3 years is still in good shape and i don´t feel like if could give it to someone else.

    Yes, Osprey, Yes.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you're looking at brands - stop here. Osprey is the best bag I've ever worn on my back.
If you're debating sizing - this pack is great for an every-day bag. I've used this bag for work, for travel, and everything in between.

    Too School For Cool

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Been using my older model Quasar almost daily for about 2 years now and had nothing but awesome experiences with it. Great for hauling books and my 13' Macbook Pro across campus as well as stuffing extra layers for those chilly days. Not to mention, this backpack looks cool enough to walk around campus while remaining technical enough to wear on long day hikes and even multi-pitch climbs. The back panel does a decent job promoting airflow but still expect some minor backpack sweat on really hot days.

Overall, the construction is solid and even has some water resistance to protect your valuables on rainy days. As other reviewers have mentioned, the soft elastic mesh pockets on the sides are prone to having small holes torn through them but they still hold a 1L Nalgene regardless and are a part of the normal wear and tear of the product.

I would totally recommend this backpack for the outdoor minded student who wants one pack to do everything.

    Too School For Cool

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this pack in my first year of med school. That was late September of 2012. I have used it for books, food, clothes, laptops, and whatever items I might need for school, camping, and anything else. I have gone through some packs in my time, and this pack has held up like a champ. There are some small holes in the soft mesh on the sides (which I think is par for the course concerning mesh side pockets), some stains on the bottom, and a very, very small hole in the partition between the small and main compartments that was worn through due to my overpacking habits. The seams are flawless. The straps are in excellent condition. I very highly recommend this pack.

    Great Backpack

This is a great backpack for the casual. I bought it with the intention of using for school and don't get me wrong, its a great backpack, gets a lot of turns from others. But unfortunately i had to return because the material weren't that great in my opinion. I bought an ogio backpack a while back for roughly the same price. And i like my ogio backpack much more so i ended up returning.

      Osprey goes to school

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Originally Osprey had been passed over for 'kids' backpacks' which turned out to be way too small for my two boys. Backcountry customer service were beyond helpful and the return process was simple.

When the two replacement Osprey Packs Quasar Backpacks arrived the boys were too excited. The colors are great, easy to tell the two boys apart from a distance! They hold all their school stuff, including the lunchbox, without being bulky. The older one uses the organizing pockets to his advantage and the younger one enjoys squirreling bits and bobs in the various pockets.

The fit? Perfect. And my boys are on the small side. The packs sit very well on small shoulders and the sternum strap helps keep the shoulder straps from sliding off slippery coat fabrics. The water bottle pockets are generous which makes it possible to run to school without the bottles flying out. They've even learned to hang their spare sweatshirts on the outside! Maybe it's time to hit the trails? Me in my 1996 Osprey and them in their 2015 Osprey packs.

Daniel, thank you for taking the time to write! I just moved my son (11) from an Osprey kids pack (the Pogo) to the Comet, very similar to the Quasar. He is beyond psyched! These kids have so much crap, and this pack is perfect for him. Thank you for keeping Osprey in the family!

Desert color on website is inaccurate

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I can't really comment on the performance of this day pack, as I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet.

I wanted to write this review to let everyone know that the Desert color is much lighter than thepicture on the Backcountry website.

The actual color is much closer to a light color sand, which would make sense, seeing as the color is named Desert.

I use this everyday for carrying my laptop, papers, extra winter layer, pencils, etc... It's an urban oriented pack with a bunch of the great features and the quality associated with Osprey outdoor oriented packs.

Just what I needed for school

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great pack, and like any Osprey, it comes with a bunch of features I didn't know I needed! Tons of pockets that are great for accessibility and organizing.

It fits my 17" laptop just fine, which is great for such a large screen.

        Great For College

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The sleeves on the inside are great for files, books, or a laptop. The big pocket is also big enough to put enough stuff for a day hike in Glacier national park or for class on a monday. Comfortable on long hikes, water resistant if you keep the flaps over the zippers, and the adjustable elastic straps come in handy for some of the weird things. Overall, a radical and durable backpack
