Women-specific comfort for urban travelers.
Osprey took its Flapjack Pack and tweaked the design to give it a women-specific fit to create the Women's Flapjill Backpack. This versatile, urban-inspired pack offers comfort and convenience for ladies making their way around town.
The padded laptop sleeve protects your computer or tablet when biking, walking, or commuting. Tough, yet lightweight 900D polyester fabric ensures the pack is built to last. A document sleeve keeps your papers and notebooks organized, and an internal mesh pocket provides a place to stash cords, chargers, and other accessories. Multiple external pockets help you keep pens, pencils, cosmetics, snacks, and other small items in order. The Flapjill also features reflective details and a patch to attach your blinking light to help you stay visible when you're riding your bike or walking home after the sun goes down. Between the women-specific comfort and a design made to accommodate your urban lifestyle, you won't be disappointed with the Flapjill.

Perfect for my walk to work
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I just received my pack today, loaded it up, walked around the house, and had to write a review. I'm absolutely thrilled with it! I looked at tons of different backpacks and this one met all of my needs -- and I had some pretty specific requirements.
I wanted a flap or drawstring rather than a zipper for the main compartment, so that narrowed my choices. Most that I saw were too small or not designed for women. I've been struggling with terrible neck and shoulder pain and my current pack was aggravating it. I can't believe the difference the waist strap and the sternum strap make. As soon as I put this one on, I could tell that the women's fit and the straps were perfect. (For context, I'm 5"3' regular build with sloping shoulders, so the narrow fit was perfect on me but could be adjusted to be even narrower.)
The fabric is great - feels like heavy canvas even though it's polyester. I like how that makes it a little more professional and less sporty. I got the beige color and really like it. It's a soft, sandy beige that'll match most anything and I won't get tired of it.
The organization matches what I carry every day. The 14 in sleeve is perfect for my 13 in Macbook Air. So many bags have huge sleeves that just waste space, so I love that this one's smaller. When you flip up the flap, the opening curves downward, making things so easy to get to. That was a lovely surprise. I also like the extra sleeve for papers, though I slide bags of oatmeal in there instead. The inside is deep, and I pack a pair of shoes to swap out, along with lunch, and usually a scarf. Fits with room to spare.
The large zipper outside pocket is big enough to fit my Tervis tumbler, which I always struggled to fit in all my other bags. The expandable pocket on the other side is fine, though bigger than I need since I mostly just keep my phone and key card in there. My only complaint is that the top zipper is hard to get in and out of. It's right under the handle so I doubt I'll use it much. But the two inner sections - one big zipper pocket and the organizer section both work great. The zip pocket is right behind the organizer and is big enough for the small purse I carry. And it doesn't push into the main body of the bag and take up space. None of the outside pockets do - they expand outward rather than inward.
The bag feels much sturdier on than I'm used to, and makes my stuff feel much lighter. All that, and it looks so much better than my bulky old backpack! Sleek look with roomy interior. I can't wait to carry it tomorrow!
My perfect commuter backpack!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I agonized a long time over what bike commuting pack to get -- I've worn messenger bags before but they always fall off my narrow shoulders and I need more organization inside. I finally pulled the trigger on the Flapjill and I am SO HAPPY I did -- I LOVE it!
Osprey really went for a perfect mix of function and form with this pack: it has loads of pockets, a padded back mesh panel, vertically adjustable chest straps, a carry handle, a big flap that buckles down, elasticized side pockets, an organizer interior pocket, and much more!
I currently commute 7 miles round trip on a fatbike, and I carry the following with me: U-lock + cable lock, change of clothes, hair brush, sweatband, extra clothes for rain (lightweight jacket, cycling cap, spare socks), phone and ID, small ziploc for bike tools, small bag of toiletries (camp towel, deodorant, hand sanitizer, etc.), and a small lunch -- all of these items fit into the pack in a perfectly organized manner and my pack doesn't feel heavy at all! When I wear the Flapjill on rides, it sits on my back really comfortably and doesn't swing around when I stand up for hills. I will say that on really hot, humid days, I do get a lot of back-sweat but that's to be expected when you ride with a backpack on a hot day!
I got the Dark Magenta (the picture shown is the true color) and I just really love riding with this pack. Also, with all the functionality, this pack would be great as a carryon backpack for traveling. I highly recommend this bag if you don't want to wear a messenger bag on your bike and need a good backpack for commuting or just for toting your stuff. (I'll update my review if anything changes!)
