    Water belongs on the outside.

NRS created the Catalina Spray Skirt to fit the large cockpits of recreational touring kayaks and prevent pooling even when waves break over your hull. An internal hoop keeps the center of the Catalina Spray Skirt from sagging, so you don't end up with your own mini lake in your lap. This fully seam-taped, urethane-coated nylon spray skirt also includes a grab loop for a quick wet exit if you find yourself upside down in the water.
    • Spray skirt for keeping water out while recreational kayaking
    • Urethane-coated nylon and taped seams add waterproof protection
    • Adjustable waist bungee on the tunnel ensures a universal fit
    • Implosion bar helps keep water from pooling onto your skirt
    • Fits your boat with adjustable shockcord bungee for security

    Sizing chart questions

I have seen and heard a lot of questions about the sizing for the spray skirt, and I have included a link to the product page on NRS' website, and it should answer those questions:

      Good skirt

Really overall a good skirt. Only downside is that it isn't quite wide enough for my boat, but it still does the job definately a great deal for the economically minded not looking at major white water. I used on some class II with it performing perfectly

        Very unimpressed...

I bought this for my Old Town Dirigo 106 to go on a kayaking trip with. After debating whether I should spend the extra money on a neoprene or not, I decided to go ahead and go with this cheap one. I ordered a small (36-42"x19-22") to fit my 38"x18.5" cockpit. They must have sent me an XS, because this thing would not fit. It took me and my two friends over an hour to get it on every time we put it on and then it popped of within a few minutes. It did stay on barely long enough to run the only class III+ rapid of the trip so I guess that is it's only redeeming quality. BIG letdown from NRS here... I wish I would have forked over a little more money for a real skirt. I will definitely be taking advantage of the 100% satisfaction guarantee. It's just a shame that I have to pay $7 to ship this piece of trash back.

Dan. At first reading your comment made me think the review was bogus, but I looked it up myself. The dirigo 106 cockpit is infact 18.5 by 38 as the reviewer said.

The reviewer should have tried a bigger size instead of calling it trash, and reviewed it saying to 'buy larger'.

Old review, but as a PSA for anyone else who reads these comments, DO NOT take a flatwater touring kayak into whitewater, period. This compounds the danger of an already potentially dangerous situation. The hull shape is completely different from whitewater kayaks, and materials used are not designed to withstand repeated rock impacts. I've seen a few people sink flatwater boats and swim in pretty mild rapids. Using improper equipment puts yourself at risk, as well as anyone who will have to rescue you if something goes wrong.

          NRS Catalina Spray Skirt

Bought the sprayskirt as a better value substitute skirt for a neprene one for my Perception Sierra with large cockpit and to be honest it is easier to fit and with the shape rib/ bar in the middle of the skirt it is easier to use whilst paddling too! The Draw cord facility on the top of the skirt is so easy to adjust that even my kids are able to use it "somehting which they couldnot do with a neprene skirt in the past." If you are looking for a great value skirt and you are not looking to run white water then this is ideal for the larger cockpit boat.

thin fabric, will provide very little protection from water entering

this skirt is ok for light paddling. After no time at all this will leak through the fabric / nylon on the top. this is ok for a starter skirt, but i have this one and personally dont like it.

              NRS Catalina spray skirt

This is a great skirt for the price. Thin nylon will leak through if you rub against it on the inside(like a tent). I can even roll in it without it imploding. Sizing is a bit odd, I would recommend trying it on before buying.

This is a good skirt keeping you dry. I only marked this adequate because I own a Heritage Featherlite 14 Kayak and the skirt works for the large opening but not perfect and because of the Featherlite 14 kayak seat back, it doesn't work well. The seat back is a little wide. How ever, I do use this all the time on the Featherlite because it does work.

                  Good skirt!

This can cinch down to a very small cock pit. I have used it now in many different kayaks. It is a really good skirt, never got wet while I had it on. You can make is bubble up and so the water rushes off the sides and does not puddle up in your lap. has good stretch in the waist. never felt constrained by it.

We have an Equinox 10.4 recreational kayak. Outside of cockpit is 50"x26" and inside is 38.4"x21.5". Do you have a spray skirt that would work? Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Your options and sizes only provide waist size of the paddler. What about the size of the cockpit? I could not find that information on your page. I THINK I would like to try this skirt but I am afraid it might not fit my 37 in X 20 in cockpit. I see other people are asking the same question.

Step into the tunnel of the skirt and pull it up onto your torso. Sit down in the cockpit and with both hands reach behind you, start the skirt on the comb (the lip around the cockpit) at both of the rear "corners" then carefully stretch it and work your way to the front. Depending on how tightly it fits this can sometimes be frustrating, but you get the hang of it after a while.

I have a 17 ft Dagger Baja...its an oldie, but I love it. I am considering a newer yak this year for portaging with. I need it to be light enough to portage single-handed, but also able to hold a weekend worth of gear. Any suggestions? I am 5'2 120lbs. (if that makes a difference)

i recommend a Pyranha Fusion Small (Connect 30 option if you're running some decent WW) Maybe a Liquid Logix Remix XP9. Fusion Small will prob fit you better. Both are "crossover boats" which means they are great on WW and have a drop down skeg to keep you straight on the flats.

What are the large straps on the skirt for? The one on the top front and a smaller one on the back of the skirt? How do you tighten the skirt down around the kayak if the cord is behind you?Hope you can answer these questions. This will be my first skirt. I received my skirt for Christmas it came with no instructions :(Thank you for your time.Patti

                    Best Answer

the straps are for something to grab and take the skirt off the kayak quickly. in the instance where you roll over and cannot righten the kayak back up while underwater. when you get the skirt, you will want to install the skirt on your kayak with you not in the boat. and re-tie the knot on the back, this way every time you put it on it is allready sized to the opening of the kayak.
