    Soft to the touch

    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 165lbs

This jacket is extremely soft to the touch even compared to other nano pro stretch jackets. It is because it is a Nylon Plain Weave compared to Nylon Ripstop. Almost all Ripstop material will have a harder feel. Just by its construction.

    Nice lightweight shell

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 220lbs

Bought this jacket for my husband who is 6'3" and has very long arms. Marmot tends to run long which is perfect for him! I got this to replace his 4 yr old Marmot hard shell that wasn't very rain proof anymore.

The material is a thinner/lighter compared to his old jacket but the fit is great and does an excellent job keeping out rain/snow/wind. Would definitely buy again.

    Great light weight rain jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Sheds the rain; well taped seams and tight cuffs. Light weight wicking fabric prevents overheating during summer showers. In cooler weather I wear it over a polar fleece or thermoball jacket. A medium, I'm 5' 10" and 180 lbs, has an excellent fit with or without the additonal layer underneath.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 155lbs

So I have been wearing this jacket for a few months now, and it has completely replaced my PreCip as a go to rain Shell. The jacket has features of some much more expensive options like a drawcord adjustable hood that is anatomically cut, pit-zips, and backpack friendly hand pockets. The stretch NanoPro fabric is a welcome upgrade and gives the jacket a much softer feel on the outside, which seems to reduce the "swish" sound considerably when you are moving around and hiking. I have been in a few considerable downpours, which this jacket has handled well. The most memorable would be the 4 days spent standing chest deep in an ancient lake, punching cast through the high wind, hail, rain, and 4-foot rolling waves. The Magus didn't even flinch and was dry by the next morning for another hard day on the water.

The sizing is pretty true, Marmot has given it a little more appealing cut than the PreCip, while allowing for some room to layer a light puffy underneath on colder days. I am 5'6" and about 155lbs, I picked up a medium to accommodate my shoulders and wider chest. The small fit well and looked more appealing, but was not as functional for me as the medium when it came to moving around and layering. This is no surprise, as I am a classic SMedium in just about everything I try.

If I had any qualms about the Magus it would be the lack of a dedicated pocket for self-stowage, It seems that marmot left out the internal zipper it has on the precip for stuffing the jacket into its own hand pocket. Not a huge thing and doesn't affect the performance of the jacket in any way.

All and all if you are needing a new shell for the season, and want something with solid features and a good fit. Don't break the bank, just pick up a Magus and save the rest of your paycheck for flies and beer!

If you have any questions about this or anything other gear, just give me a ring! -Tight lines
