I love these shorts. For my first La Sportiva clothing piece, I have been incredibly impressed by the attention to detail that has been put into the construction and comfortability of these shorts.
Fit – I am an active, shorter person, and honestly, I wish I had ordered a size smaller. I ordered the mediums, which seem to be designed around a 32” waist, but are still comfortable for a 30-31” waist individual with a belt. I am about 5’ 7” and the medium size short comes down about an inch below my knee.
Product Features/Materials – The material of these shorts are what I really love! These shorts are made of Cordura fabric, which offers excellent stretch – perfect for any outdoor activities. The stretch allows for incredible comfort as you bend, jump, pedal, and climb through the summer months. All pockets seem to be well designed and are large enough for all of your basic necessities.
Use – Biking, rafting, or at the office; every time I’ve worn these shorts they have surpassed my expectations. Again, I enjoy the stretch that these shorts offer on commute bike rides, and they did a so-so job when taken out on the raft. The lightweight feel of the shorts offset any bit of saturation from the river, but they did take longer than my Mountain Khaki Equatorial Short to dry out. Still, the comfort wasn’t compromised when they were wet.
Pros – The stretch. As I’ve mentioned above, these shorts provide phenomenal flexibility required for any and all outdoor activities. From biking to bouldering to kicking back around the campfire, these shorts will more than hold their own – plus, you may just be the best dressed person there! Not to be overlooked, the pockets are very well designed and have no issue holding all the basics, but they don’t get in the way of your motion (unlike the MK Equatorial Short that has more shallow pockets).
Cons – The sizing seems to run large in my opinion. I can generally fit into ‘medium’ sized clothing, but these are definitely on the larger side. The shorts include a “belt”, but it is really just a shoelace. I immediately removed the shoelace belt and now use a regular belt that works much better. I do wish that the shorts were a bit more waterproof, which would make them my go-to water sport short.
Durable and comfortable
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
They are made out of the same material as the La Sportiva solution pants, which seems indestructible. I beat the up all summer/fall and they still look new.
