It works
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
It's definitely cute and has plenty of room for two people. Assembly was relatively easy for the first time out at the campsite. I'd definitely recommend two people to set this up. I have a smaller backpacking tent I'll use for solo trips but I'll keep this around for car camping with my girlfriend. I much prefer the shorter sleeves and use of clips like you'd find on the wireless tents, for the poles. However on those, you don't get the same headroom. We were able to fit a 10 in tall Intex Queen mattress in the tent. It was a little tight with it in there but having the air mattress was worth it for a sound sleep at $30. As others have mentioned with this tent, ventilation is lacking while the rain cover is on. The cover is easy enough to put on and off. 4 clips to each corner of the base and it's color coded + the third center pole. We were in 70° day temps and 50° night temps and were pretty comfortable inside. If it was any warmer I can see it getting hot inside with the rain cover on. We were only in the tent at night however and it kept us warm and dry. A few pockets on the inside allow for storage of phones, wallets, glasses etc. There is a zipper on the door of the main base tent door that allows for ventilation. Zippers were okay, if a bit frustrating at times. You just have to finesse the rain covers on the zippers, but that's kind of annoying, ya know? I'd rather a mesh door, maybe something I'll look for in the next tent. We did have a night / morning of steady rain and with the rain cover ties out, it kept the tent dry. I did notice a fair bit of moisture still on the tent. Some extra wax should help. Packup was okay, the poles are a bit hard to get in / out of the grommets and sleeves. Big kudos to Kelty for the bag being big enough and slightly stretchy to fit everything back in easily. Packing the tent back into the bag was truly the easiest of any tent I've had. A shout out to Backcountry for overnighting it to me. Arrived well packaged and on time for our short notice trip. I'll give it 4 stars for the money, a few minor adjustments would make it better but also add to the cost I'd imagine. A tallboy 2.0 with Aluminum poles, better ventilation, and easier assembly would be awesome.

Room for Improvement

Sadly, the sleeves that the tent poles went through tore when I disassembled the tent after my first camping trip. It can be easily sewn together and I will most likely keep the tent and make the repairs myself. A common point of contention that others experienced was that the fabric around the zippers always gets caught, and I agree that this is a small design flaw that could be improved. Other than that, this tent was as listed, and the standing space in this tent is exactly what I was looking for.

Functional Tent with Good Inside Height
- Size Bought:
- 4-man
- Weight:

While I just ordered this tent, it is exactly what I was looking for - a 4-man tent with extra height (nearly 6 feet). I?m in my 70?s and I?ve found that shorter inside height tents are harder to move around in, especially when dressing and undressing. I had 2 other similar tents that lasted me 30 years but ultimately zippers and shock cord gave out. They served their purpose well. It looks like this Kelly tent will last well beyond me and give my kids lots of tenting fun. By the way, I have a Kelty backpack that I bought in the mid-60?s and it?s still as good as new.
