Universal Tail Clip

A splitboard is a unique type of snowboard that can be divided into two separate skis for uphill travel. This feature allows snowboarders to ascend backcountry terrain by using the skis to climb, and then reattach the two halves to ride down like a traditional snowboard. This versatility makes splitboards ideal for accessing remote areas without ski lifts.

Skins are essential for backcountry snowboarding as they provide traction when climbing uphill. These special strips attach to the bottom of your splitboard and allow you to slide forward while preventing backward movement. Without skins, it would be challenging to ascend snowy slopes effectively.

Tail clips are used to secure the back end of your skins to the splitboard. They ensure that the skins stay in place during your ascent, especially in steep or deep snow conditions. Properly attached tail clips help maintain your grip and stability while climbing.

Rivet installation involves attaching the tail clips to your splitboard using small metal fasteners called rivets. This method creates a strong and durable connection, ensuring that the clips remain secure even in challenging conditions. Proper installation is crucial for the performance and safety of your backcountry adventures.

Backcountry terrain consists of areas outside of marked ski resorts, featuring natural landscapes like mountains and forests. It requires specialized equipment, such as splitboards and skins, as well as skills in navigation and safety. Understanding the risks and preparing adequately is essential for a safe and enjoyable backcountry snowboarding experience.

While you can technically use a regular snowboard in backcountry terrain, it is not recommended. Regular snowboards are not designed for uphill travel, making it difficult to access remote areas. A splitboard, combined with skins, is specifically designed for this purpose, allowing for efficient climbing and a smooth ride down.
