Why We Like The HOKA Speedgoat 6 Wide Running Shoe
A workhorse on the trail, the HOKA Speedgoat 6 Wide Running Shoe is made with ultralight materials and grippy, responsive features to handle miles of rocky, undulating trails. The knit woven upper keeps cool air flowing through on warm runs, while the lighter, more responsive midsole compound puts a little pep in our step while absorbing impact. Tons of traction comes from the Vibram MegaGrip outsole with 4.5mm lugs that chew up loose terrain underfoot.

So disappointed...
I heard the new Speedgoats went down in quality but i ignored the complaints. I needed new fall trail running shoes so took a trip to R.E.I. to try the new Speedgoat 6, being a fan of the 5s. I was expecting to walk out with a pair of 6s, but the complaints were valid! They were shockingly uncomfortable! They are stiff and run small. They still had the Speedgoat 5s in the store so my friend and I put them on side by side. The 5s are roomier and the material is much softer. The material on the 6s felt like cheap plastic and when I sized up they fit the toe box but then rubbed on the heel. I tried on the Stinson 7 instead, which also didn't workout. They're plush on the foot, but stiff around the ankles and way too heavy and stacked for a trail running shoe. I was so disappointed. I ended up with the Challenger 7s, which are very comfortable, but I was hoping for a more technical quality trail running shoe. I feel like I should backstock the Speedgoat 5s...otherwise I might need to switch to a different brand. Hopefully the quality improves next time!

If it isn't broken don't fix it
I've been wearing Speedgoats since the forth iteration. It seems every new version is basically a downgrade. This one feels a little smaller and has less cushion. It's a very different shoe now than it was a few years ago. With all the accolades of the Speedgoat 4, why or why change it so drastically. I now believe the heel pain that started last year was due to the changes made in the 5th version and the Speedgoat 6 is no better. On the bright side, the return policy is very generous and I am thankful for that.

Great upgrade from Speedgoat 5 to 6
Fit and cushion feel even better. The new design on the "tongue" is a great improvement. It cushions the top of the foot and allows better movement with being notched and shorter. The 6 feels lighter with greater mobility. The design & black & green color are fun. I have already recommended these to a friend.

Not the shoe for me, here's why.
One year ago I switched from Altra's to Hokas for my walking shoes. I quit running as much, and was doing more walks and power hikes and the Hokas were great for that. I'm back into trail running now and thought I'd give this shoe a try. It seems like a good shoe, just not if you want your toes to splay while running. I really need that. My toes felt incredibly pinched, it seemed to be very narrow. I also found this to be a VERY hot shoe. I need breathability. Two other problems I encountered in the three runs I used them for (16 miles total), was the low tongue was a little funny and the laces came up over the tongue causing friction at the top of the foot. That's a potential problem for high mile runs, but the biggest problem was the way the shoe hit and rubbed just under my ankle bone. It was unbearable. I LOVE my Hoka Clifton and Bondi for walking. I'll stick with Altra for my trail runs.

Hobbling after a two mile easy hike
I wanted to love these. They're rad. I've heard such good things about other versions of the speedgoat. I bought these for a mountain race and wore them on a short hike to break them in. They dug into my ankle bones on any slight up or downhill and often even on the flats. I tried tying them different ways, nothing relieved the pain. It's like they forgot to cut out a slot for your ankle bones or something. Grateful for the free returns.

Not the same fit
I have been loving and running in Speedgoats for years! I usually have no problem wearing them right out of the box even for a 50 or 100 miler although this time was different, I revived my shoes tossed in my personal liners (I have extremely high arches) like I always do, headed out the door for a 10 mile run and something was off.... upon taking off my shoe and feeling the toe box my liners were too small- this has never happened before, bummer the shoe doesn't fit like the last 4 models. The toe box is bigger so beware if your were an avid Speedgoat lover like myself and are use to just tossing them on and going for it, I am currently searching the internet for the last model.

Great hiking show
I hike 5 miles each day. Over a lot of rocks and dirt roads. The shoe is very comfortable and helps my foot with Mortons Neuroma. The foot support helps me with walking uphills

Great update
I've been running in speedgoats for years and really love the new update. They feel more stable to me. I get wides since I have a wide toe box and they fit great.
