The Newest Hammerhead?

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

About 35 years ago, I traded my French hardshell helmet--the only hardshell on the market at the time and perfect for mountain biking--for the first American hardshell I found, the Giro Hammerhead. It was half the weight of the French helmet, and had a thin hardshell and excellent ventilation. A few months later I went down in a low water crossing, slamming the back of my head on the slippery concrete, and rode away due to the excellent protection. I replaced it with the same helmet and kept replacing it with Giro's for a number of years. I'm coming off about 10 years of Specialized's previous Ambush usage and might have stuck with that model had they not changed it so much. So, looking around, I found this helmet, read up on it, and bought it. And July in Texas is a good test for ventilation and general comfort. Ventilation? Excellent. Better than the Ambush, and the Ambush was really good. Comfort? The frame snugs around my head, the padding is pretty minimalist but is very comfortable. I'm still tweaking the adjustable rear frame, because if the helmet doesn't sit just right on the head, the front vent rails are in one's upper vision. The visor, too, doesn't really come down as far as it should for early morning light. Still, it's very comfy, great ventilation and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. Just like my original Hammerhead

Good Helmet. Ineffective visor

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

So happy with the fit. I thought it would fit like the spherical ski helmets. I bought a small and it’s very tight. I also wear a cycling cap under for the visor. I ride early or later in the day and seeing in the forest can be a scary experience.
