With you for every epic ride.

Trail riding demands a helmet that you can forget about on the climb, but that won't bail on you if you overshoot a switchback and end up flying over your bars. Based on the design of the pricier Montaro MIPS helmet, the Giro Chronicle MIPS Helmet comes with no-frills sensibility for riders who'd rather focus on getting out on singletrack and staying safe than on having the fanciest equipment. Upgrade now to get lightweight, streamlined protection further enhanced by the addition of MIPS.

Like any self-respecting MTB lid, the Chronicle MIPS comes with extended coverage along the back of the head, as well as a protective P.O.V. Plus visor to shield you from sharp branches, rocks, and the sun. The In-Mold polycarbonate shell pairs with EPS foam to provide more traditional protection against hard hits, while MIPS sits subtly inside the helmet in the form of a thin inner basket. This barely-there liner shifts slightly upon impact to absorb brain-damaging rotational energy generated by certain crashes. Plush Coolmax padding keeps the helmet resting softly against your noggin, and 14 airy Wind Tunnel vents prevent things from getting swampy inside the helmet on a warm weekend afternoon.

    • Shield your noggin without cramping your style on-trail
    • Visor and extended coverage add trail-specific protection
    • Lightweight design with 14 vents won't weight you down
    • MIPS technology minimizes effects of certain damaging crashes
    • One-handed adjustment keeps helmet comfortable and secure
    • Plush interior Coolmax padding wicks as it cushions

    Good coverage and ventilation

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The chronicle has better coverage than most, stays very secure and has adequate ventilation considering the coverage. Downside is that for the application, I prefer a bit more coverage of the temple area and the way it secures behind the head can become a bit uncomfortable. Sweat also isn't very well managed so just kind of drips out all over the place when it gets hot rather than being directed like some of the competitors. Overall, at Backcountry's sale price it's a solid helmet but I'd look at the competition if I were paying full price.

    Nice Upgrade

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Our neighbor recently was in a mountain biking accident and his helmet saved his noggin. When my wife and I realized how old our helmets were we decided to upgrade. We have always been happy with Giro for our kids helmets and this helmet is no exception.

    Chronicle adjustment for headband

Location of adjustment to raise or lower head band on Giro Chronicle helmet is there but not explained in instructions!

I saw that a couple of people said the helmet liner/adjustment band rested on their ears. I had a similar issue, where the head band laid just above my ears and was uncomfortable sometimes if I moved my head up or down. I found an adjustment (right hand side of photo, black u-shaped peice) that I could slide up with a small flat head screwdriver. I pushed it all the way up (2 notches, it was originally set in the middle) and it helped lift the headband from the top of my ears. Way more comfortable after that.
Limited instructions with the helmet (had to stumble upon that headband height over the ears adjustment, I didn't see it in the instructions).

    Chronicle adjustment for headband

    It's big....but crazy comfy..

    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 194lbs

so i'm on the smallish side of the head size scale and this thing just like wraps around it so in my mind / opinion it's 'big' however, that means more of my noggin is covered and protected when i go and start making bad decisions on the trail.

also this thing is so light and comfy you sometimes don't realize you're wearing it.

    highly recommended.

Hope I don't have to use it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I compare my helmet to my flat tire kit; hope I don't have to use it. I've been wearing Giro helmets forever, they just fit my head. And it's not too hot nor does it bounce around on my nogging thanks to a secure twist knob adjuster on the back.

    Bang for you Buck

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This helmet is comfortable, looks good, and has MIPS. All of this for half the price of most other mountain bike helmets. This helmet is good looking! It also feels like it is protecting your entire head. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a solid mountain bike helmet that doesn't feel the need to break the bank.

    Great visibility and comfort

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Lightweight helmet that's extremely comfortable with superior ventilation in a color that offers great visibility. This helmet offers affordable protection, an attractive design and a secure fit.

    Nice design. Nice pricetag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is really all you need. Looks sick, fits nice and has MIPS. The price tag is super reasonable compared to others with similar technology. I liked the fit of this helmet much more than the POCs. Would highly recommend this

    Good work, Giro

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great value for a MIPS equipped helmet. For more ventilation and lighter weight, look elsewhere, but plan on spending twice as much. Fits true to size.
So far, my head is fine. But I haven't had to actually "use" it yet. So that's neat.

    Great helmet!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Super lightweight, huge visor for extra sun protection and sleek matte black finish. The padding inside the helmet is comfortable and breathable. Also, the plastic mechanism that tightens is adaptable for varied head size.

I have used a headlamp while hearing the helmet, but it fits best under the rim as opposed to over the helmet because of the visor. Perhaps if riding at night, remove the visor.

Overall, definitely satisfied with the product, protection extends to the back of the head, ideal for enduro rides when weight is of the essence!

    Keeps your brains safe!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been through 2 of these helmets this season in some pretty gnarly impacts. Each time this lid did just as it was suppose to and took the impact and let me walk away with no head trauma despite splitting one helmet and deeply denting another.
Hopefully no one else has to find out how well they work at keeping your noggin safe but if you do this is a good one to have on! Also best fitting(=comfortable) helmet I have ever owned.

    MIPS: Mother Approved

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this as a gift, and here's what he had to say:

This helmet is awesome! I really like the extended visor to keep glare down, and the many vents allow me to stay cool so my noggin doesn't overheat.

I am a size L in this helmet and the adjustment crank knob really allows it to stay in place on my head, even on jagged and rocky trails.

At a great price, having the MIPS tech is key so your mom doesn't have to worry. 5 Stars!!!

    Great Value and MIPS!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Like a few others have said, this is a killer value helmet. Tough to get MIPS technology at this price point and Giro delivers. Size wise, there is some adjust-ability with it so that helps a ton. I'm a 7 1/4 to 7 3/8 hat and the Medium was spot on for me. Large would be too roomy in my opinion.

    Very happy, great value

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great value. Lightweight, fits well. This is my first helmet with MIPS and so far I love it. Beyond the added safety feature it seems to provide additional ventilation, which keeps me cool even in hot temps.
