Nice Hot Weather MTB Short

I've used it several times
Runs large
Size Bought
5` 4"
140 lbs

I was on the fence about giving these shorts 4 or 5 stars, but in the process of writing this review determined that for their intended purpose, riding a mountain bike, I really like these shorts. 5 stars! I decided to give these shorts a try for two reasons, Club Ride's claim that they are made of a light weight material suitable for hot weather, and a loose, baggy fit appropriate for mountain biking. I am 5'4" and 140lbs, based on other's reviews and Club Rides sizing guide I went with the medium and have been totally happy. My go-to short for years has been the Fox Ripley. I still love these shorts, but the most recent models are made of a pretty heavy material that I don't find breathes very well for XC/Trail riding in hot conditions. I have older model Ripleys that are made of a lighter weight material, but as I have ridden more I find that these older models are a bit restrictive in a cycling position as my legs have gotten stronger. My hope was that the Club Ride Savvy would be a more comfortable short for both hot riding conditions and would fit my athletic thighs well. The Savvy succeeds! When I am riding I do not think about these shorts at all, they are comfortable, do not restrict movement in any way, and they are noticeably lighter weight than my other shorts. There are a few things I might have preferred differently. I do find that when off the bike the length hits me just below the knee. This is not an issue on the bike when riding. For the record I do have shorter legs so this may not be an issue for all. For around town I might prefer a slightly shorter length, but these fit perfectly on the bike so I don't feel like I can fault the shorts. Second, the shorts are adjustable at the waist via a soft, elastic, draw string. Tying a draw string is a bit inconvenient, but it does a perfect job, does not bind or create any itchy velcro points, so again, I can't fault the design. So, in conclusion, 5 stars from me for these shorts with an athletic fit that I love wearing in hot conditions.

Initial review

Just got these shorts and have only worn them once but I like em! I’m 5ft 4, 130lbs and ordered S based on reviews. The fit it perfect. When seated they are several inches above my knee and roughly fall to slightly at or mid knee when standing. I love the dovetail side hem-makes me feel ok wearing them to the bar after riding without feeling like I’m wearing bike shorts. Feminine cut/slim flitting-small fit perfectly. At least on me. I like the snap and no zipper fly! I wore my chamois with out looking like diaper butt so I would say these are great. I would like an additional pocket or deeper pocket but I rode with a small backpack or hip pack so I guess extra pockets are necessary. I took away a star because having only worn them once I noticed at some point there was a snag/small hole in the butt seam. I’m going to exchange for a non damaged pair because I really like the shorts. Of course backcountry has stellar service and my gear head took care of my order and I’m getting sent a new pair of shorts. THIS is why I love backcountry over other retailers-they have the best service!!! Not cause I could exchange them but because they are so knowledgeable and super helpful. Updated to 5 stars cause these shorts are great. Work my shorts about 6 times now, so still new but they have taken a beating and held up nicely. Long stinky and dirty rides and I can almost dust off the grime and go a few rides between a good wash.

Run REALLY big, but great shorts

I returned this product before using it

I am not typically considered a small human... I am 5'6" and 140 lbs, and carry most of that weight in my "sturdy" base, so when I read the other review on this item I ordered a small instead of a medium. The smalls are still way too big. I have pretty narrow hips, but still, I would recommend ordering at LEAST a size smaller, if not two sizes smaller (for narrow hipped people like myself) than you normally would. Other than the sizing discrepancy, the shorts are awesome! I am definitely swapping them out for a smaller pair because I really like the style of the short.

run big and long

I returned this product before using it

I ordered these but am going to return them. I'm 5'6/ 140 lb and usually wear a medium in MTB shorts. These are way too big. They're also very long. I prefer shorts to sit right above the knee but these cover my knees.
