Toddler & Infant Gloves & Mittens

Fleece-lined gloves are best for mild cold and give fingers freedom for play, while mittens trap more heat so they're warmer for snowy conditions. Waterproof shell mittens work well layered over liners for wet snow, and models like fleece-lined gloves offer less bulk for active kids.

Long, generous cuffs and adjustable wrist straps or base cinches are the simplest ways to keep mittens on and block out snow. Many styles also come with retention strings or dual cinches and extra-wide openings—Stonz Baby Snow Mitts are a good example of designs made to stay put.

Hydrophobic-coated shells handle rain and heavy snow by shedding moisture and preventing internal buildup, making them a better outer layer for wet conditions. Fleece liners add non-bulky insulation underneath for warmth, so pairing a hydrophobic shell with a fleece liner gives both dryness and comfort.

Anti-scratch mittens use soft materials like cotton or fleece and a smooth interior to prevent tiny fingernails from irritating sensitive newborn skin. They’re lightweight for indoor wear and some brands, like Reima, also emphasize PFA-free fabrics in their glove and mitten construction for safer materials.

A generous cuff length that fits over jacket sleeves plus wide openings make it easier to seal gloves against snow, and adjustable toggles at two points or base cinches help secure the wrist. Thumb-less or extra-wide thumb openings also speed on-off while maintaining a snow-blocking fit.
