Think about the runs you do most: daily trainers handle easy runs and long mileage on concrete, max-cushion models (up to about 40mm stack) excel for recovery and joint protection, and racing flats or lightweight trainers target 5K–10K race pace and intervals. For heel strikers a moderate heel-to-toe drop in the 8–10mm range often eases initial contact, and a higher stack height (toward 30–40mm) adds cushioning on hard pavement. Also consider the midsole material—EVA or responsive foams like FF Blast+—to balance shock absorption and energy return.

Measure both foot length and width and allow a half-size up if you expect swelling on long runs to avoid blisters and black toenails. Look for wide fits and try shoes on with the socks you’ll run in, making sure there’s comfortable toe-box room without slippage.

If you have mild to severe overpronation a stability shoe with a medial post can help control inward roll and provide a more secure platform on pavement. Hybrids can be a good choice for mixed routes; rock plates protect against sharp roots and one-directional lugs improve grip on packed dirt while still rolling on tarmac.
